This is one of the best nonfiction biographies I have read recently, and the subjects were two I had previously not heard of. The book is written in short vignettes that narrate the story well and do not overwhelm the reader. It really hits the sweet spot of thorough information, and relaxing reading (larger print, short but still quality columns of text).

I especially appreciated both authors' notes about how they had come to write about Grace and James Boggs, and the illustrators' notes on her process. This would be a fantastic biography for schools and libraries, and I highly recommend this for state readers choice award nominee.

Written in poetry form, this children's book tells the story of political activists, James and Grace Lee Boggs. James and Grace came from diverse backgrounds but had on thing in common they wanted change. Facing discrimination all their lives including their choice to get married they spoke out against the status quo.
Author Sun Yung Shin draws from the her interviews with Grace along with researching her life and writings present an excellent portrait of her life. Melina Mangal researched the story of James' life through his writings on what need to be changed to promote equality. Illustrator Leslie Barlow brings to life these two amazing activists in a realistic style with various details and colorful expression.
This would be an excellent book to teach students about ways they can come together to make a change. This book needs to be in school and home libraries everywhere
