This was really well written with a captivating plot. I felt like I was in the book myself with how well the setting is set and described. I love books that involve feuding families and also characters that are somewhat likeable but still have flaws. I think a lot of the drama is relatable for most people. I like how raw and vulnerable the characters are through reading all of their flaws and misgivings. This book made me feel a lot of different emotions from anger to sadness to frustration. When things come to a head the book really sucked me in! I also really liked the animals/wildlife in this book and I don’t read many books that include that in the plot. There was a lot of symbolism there which was fascinating. With themes of heavy topics we can all relate to like addiction, violence, and poverty this book really sends a message about a person can break through the stereotypes and circumstances and try to do the right and best thing.
