Clara Weston and her two daughters have escaped Clara's overbearing father. As a widow, she moved home and saw that her choices in life were only those of her father's choices. She takes the girls and heads west. Blue Lyons, while working on building pews for a church, rushes to help Clara who has fainted from hunger. A relationship forms as Clara and her daughters help Blue build the church pews. Blue has shut himself off from most of life since a tragedy involving his own family. Clara is determined to live on her own and show her ability to care for her children. Their stubbornness takes time for them to realize that they have built something with each other... a relationship which daughters Eleanor and Libby wholeheartedly accept. I wanted them to open their hearts to each other and to the prayers that God was answering much sooner than the story offered, but this is still a satisfying story.
Thanks to Harlequin Love Inspired Historical, Linda Ford and NetGalley for this ARC.

I was intrigued in the beginning of this story, with Blue rescuing a stubborn mother and her two precocious daughters. The character development was promising, but then slowed as Clara repeatedly refused help or only accepted if she could prove to herself that she is contributing, even when it's encroaching on Blue's work. Blue's thoughts also stalled on his guilt and remorse, not allowing himself to feel worthy of happiness. The secrecy go old as well, and I eventually lost interest in seeing how it would all play out. I think it would have helped me for there to be more connection and revealing of layers earlier on in the book.

A sweet Historical romance about two unlikely people finding each other. And two sweet little girls getting their Christmas wish.
