Sadly, this one didn't do it for me, fully. I think I may have had my expectations too high.

"It’s a little bit Jane Austen, a little bit Edgar Allen Poe, and a whole lot of stealing heartbeats in order to stay young and beautiful forever."

Who wouldn't have their hopes high after reading that!? It reminds me of Erzsebet Bathory, but from a 19th century perspective. I'm also a "fan" can one be called a fan if you love the stories but you're appalled by them? I'll just run with that word and hope you get the point. I'm a fan of Erzsebet Bathory stories. I'll read everything I can get my hands on, and this just didn't do the same thing. The plot was okay but there wasn't enough there in Senza Fyne to believe that she was riddled with doubt about her aging. I hate when I compare stories, but sometimes it cannot be helped. Although they are completely different premises, the blood that makes the plot is still the same, and they do not come close to comparing.

That said, the plot was good enough to keep me interested in the story. The writing was okay, not out of this world, and I wasn't whisked away like the great writers have been able to do, but it was again, good enough that I wanted to continue on. There's something about her character, even with it not completely adding up, that made me want to continue.

There's also a fantastic historical presence. The book actually takes place for over a century, due to her stealing lives to stay young, so there is a lot more to the story that can be addressed, unlike in other stories where this paranormal existence doesn't take place. I did feel like I was able to take this journey with her, even though I was not entirely whisked away by it.

And this is precisely why I hate reading the synopsis. I feel like I would have enjoyed this more had I not read that it was Edgar Allen Poe mixed with Jane Austen! For me, it doesn't quite fit.
