I want to thank NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for the ARC of The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews by The Coastal Kitchen.
The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews is a great addition to any kitchen. The book is broken down into food groups like vegetables, poultry, beef and meats and even a section with fishes. The pictures that correspond with certain recipes really captures the dish. This is an extensive book of soup and stew recipes and will make the reader very hungry. In the back of the book are the different recipes for soup stocks that can be used in the soup/ stew recipes. There is also an appendix with addition recipes of breads that go with the different soups. I cannot wait to make the Cream of Tomato soup, pork wonton soup, and the Italian Wedding soup. The pita bread recipe looks interesting and easy to make as well. With all the recipes in this book, there is definitely something for every taste!

I loooooooove soup! So I definitely had to check out this cookbook!
Some of the recipes looked like the font was colored white and it was harder to read than the other fonts - I'm not sure if it's printed like this too? It's pretty infrequent though.
I always love when a cookbook has a photo for every recipe and sadly we don't get there here - It's only about 1 photo for every 5-7 recipes or so. But the photos you do get are truly gorgeous and really make you want to dive in.
It was a little strange to me to find so many different cultures together, pho next to polpette di ricotta in brodo etc, but I really loved the variety. It shows I have picked up a lot of culture specific cookbooks in the past - but we love changing it up and exploring food from all over the world so I really enjoyed the large variety of recipes.
This included quite a recipes I haven't heard of or tried before. Very eager to dive in and get cooking.
I think soup lovers might love checking out these recipes - I wouldn't necessarily want it as a star place in a cookbook shelf because I think it lacks a bit in beauty but it's perfectly useful and functional.

This cookbook is loaded with all the soup and stew recipes. I gave a few a try and they came out perfectly. I love the huge variety to choose from and even new soups I’ve never tried before that I plan on trying. This was a really good one!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. It is the perfect book for fall and winter and I am so excited to make these delicious recipes.

I love a good stew and this book has a ton of really good recipes in it. It also had some great information about how to prepare the soups and stews (I did not know that you should try and prepare the soups in advance for the best flavours). I am looking forward to trying these recipes, and I feel like some of them are going to be a staple in the household.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book.

Here is a copy of my review on Goodreads.
Sorry it's not super positive, but I would be happy to help with arranging the recipes in a better order.
This is a pretty classic cookbook, with a wide selection of soups and stews. The introduction was useful. I learned a thing or two about how to properly store and reheat my soup.
Now, why only 3 stars?
Please note that I am reviewing an ARC and the editor might fix those issues in the definitive copy.
1. The recipes themselves are pretty good and straightforward. The instructions are not very detailed, so you already need to be a good cook. Nothing wrong with that, but it might disappoint some readers.
2. The order of the recipes can feel very random. There are broad sections (vegetable soups, stews...) but you will alternate between Asian recipes, Italian recipes, French recipes etc... with no transition. Why not have sub-themes, at least geographically?
3. There is no individual introduction to the recipes. While I don't enjoy cookbooks that have more chatter than actual cooking, this is a bit extreme. I feel like some soups deserve context. Since most recipes do not fill the whole page, the editors could add a few lines to explain where the soup is from, and when it is usually made.
All in all, pretty good recipes that deserve more photos and context.
Thank you NetGalley, The Cider Mill Press and The Coastal Kitchen for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book! I absolutely fell in love with it and I became so hungry flipping through the pages! The photography makes many of the recipes look irresistible. I do wish there were more photos for each recipe, but that didn’t stop me from marking several I can’t wait to try, from classic favorites to ones with fun, unexpected twists. It feels like the perfect companion for cozy weeknights or lazy weekend cooking.

The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews is an essential addition to any kitchen library—a comprehensive and beautifully curated cookbook that lives up to its name. With a wide range of recipes covering classic comfort foods to bold international flavors, this book is truly your one-stop shop for everything soup and stew related.
The recipes are clearly written, easy to follow, and packed with flavor, making them perfect for both novice cooks and seasoned chefs alike. What truly sets this cookbook apart are the stunning photographs that accompany each recipe—vibrant, mouthwatering, and inspiring, they bring every dish to life.
Whether you're craving a hearty winter stew or a light summer soup, this cookbook has something for every season and taste. A must-have for home cooks, food lovers, and anyone who appreciates the art of a well-made bowl.

Its soups and stews season! This has lots of new ideas to try, will keep my family and well-fed all season long!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, all opinions are my own.

If like me you like to make soups then this is the cook book for you. There is every type of soup you can imagine in here. There are bisques and chowders, stews and noodle soups too. The only thing is the measurements are for America so you have to just check out the conversion for UK measurements. The only other thing I found is that some of the recipes are printed in black ink which is fine but others are printed in white ink and I found these ones harder to read.

This book had so much potential and failed. Admittedly, as a trained chef and former food blogger, i am a bit harsher on my cookbook critiques. There were some huge issues in this book like half the recipes were ineligible due to the writing color being in white which really blended in with the color page. Secondly, the photos were beautiful but there were too few included. And thirdly, with this multicultural collection, it would have been nice to know what region the recipes were from. Otherwise, it was a good book.

There is a soup or stew in this book for everyone. The photos are fantastic and plentiful. The recipes are very user-friendly. The only downside is that some of the ingredients are harder to source than others. However, there are numerous recipes with readily available ingredients, making it a minor issue.

I absolutely love these encyclopedias. I’ve borrowed many from my local library, but I cannot wait to own this one. With fall coming up its perfect for the cold months.

This book is exactly what I want/need going into fall and winter. Pretty much all these recipes looked amazing and I would gladly eat almost everything from this book. I plan on trying several recipes once the book is released. I took a star off only because I wish there had been more pictures to accompany each soup. Cooking is very visual and having that image to go along with most or all the recipes would've been great especially since many of the recipes took about about half of each page which would've left plenty of room to include a picture. I could've also done without the dessert section as dessert soups are just not something that seems necessary to me. Lastly, for the recipes that aren't traditionally American, having a sentence or two to simply explain what that soup is would've been nice since I otherwise had no idea what some of these soups were and had to put the pieces together by looking at the ingredients.

Some pages were hard to read. I hope in print it is easier on the eyes, but beige pages with white text is a poor choice. Having a digital copy to review, I have the option to zoom in on the page in any rate I like, but it didn’t help at all The design overall is very nice and cosy, loved the photos.
Navigation is a bit turmoilous, as authors tried to put the whole recipe on one page, making it not very functional book.

As far as soups are concerned this certainly appears to be encyclopedic. Every one that I could think of was covered. Similarly for stews tho I couldn’t believe that beef bourguignon didn’t appear to make the cut. So there are definitely sufficient recipes to keep yourself sustained indefinitely. All the measures and ingredient names used are those that would be familiar to a US cook. So that may well reflect the target audience. But if a European reader such as myself gets hold of it, you just need to keep a metric and centigrade converter to hand.

The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews includes over 300 recipes, organized by ingredients used in the soups: vegetables, poultry, pasta/dumplings, seafood, etc. Each recipe includes step by step instructions, yield, active time, and total time.
With over 300 recipes, it’s pretty comprehensive and you’d have a lot of options to choose from to make. They seem easy to make and there are step by step instructions, but less than a third of the recipes have photos. and none have comments about what they are or where they’re from. I would think an encyclopedia would have more information than this. If I don’t know what something is, without any explanation, and I don’t know what it’s supposed to look like, I’m probably not going to eat it.
If I went to a restaurant and didn’t know what something was, a waiter/server wouldn’t just tell you the ingredients, they’d tell you what the dish is. And that’s what I found lacking in this book. At least the index is expansive and listed by ingredient as well as by soup name.
Thank you to Cider Mill Press and NetGalley. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook.

The perfect cookbook to have on your shelves for the upcoming fall & winter season!! Its packed full of great recipes that will most certainly keep you cozy & nourished! Thank you Netgalley for the arc.

What a great book I was after more ideas for soup to get more veg into the family during the day and need to keep them interested in the soups and now have so much variety I can finally get my family eating veg without complaint. This book is packed with ideas for soups, stews and everything in between including some interesting fruity soups as well. Really good book for the kitchen shelves.

This was a great cookbook. It has easy-to-follow recipes. I would highly recommend this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the Publishers for the ARC.
