Brilliant collection of soups and stews that cross cultural lines. Color photos offer glimpses of plating options and the recipes themselves are well written. The only detractor is the color choices in the first section. White text on very pale cream makes it super, super difficult to read, and in fact, I skipped a few pages because of it. Fix that and you could have a perfect five

The book stood out to me given fall is quickly approaching. This book is jam packed with interesting recipes, enough to keep you warm for many cold nights.

Some recipes sound absolutely delicious, some wouldn't be to my taste. From my point of view there are quite a few recipes that I would likely never make but that could just be personal taste. I do find some recipes have an extensive list of ingredients that might not necessarily be available. For someone with less experience in cooking that might deter them from continuing with preparing that particular recipe. For me an encyclopaedia would start at the basics and progress into more advanced techniques and recipes.

The recipes themselves are well structured and mostly easy to read (except for a few early light coloured pages with white text which is impossible to read). It is difficult to know what the final result should look like, pictures show the reader if they are on the right track with their efforts. I think a even small addition (maybe polaroid style) at the bottom of each recipe would really help. Perhaps also a brief description of some of the soup names would be helpful for those recipe titles that are in other languages.

All in all I am excited to continue cooking these recipes, some adaptions may be made for ingredients not available to me.

Thanks for the early edition arc NetGalley in exchange for my honest review!

Wow! When they say Encyclopedia, they mean Encyclopedia! What an enormous collection of different soups and stews, featuring all kinds of different proteins and complexities.

So much inspiration in one book!

For me, living in a small town, some of the ingredients would be difficult to source, but all in all, this is a great collection of recipes to inspire the homecook!

A lot of recipes in one big book of soups and stews. Some are really similar to each other. Some staples and some new variations. The first sections color scheme is a bit of a poor choice since the background is too light for white font. The recipes on the other hand are clear and easy to follows.

I really enjoyed this!!
There’s SOOOO many soups and stews and pastas
It’s heaven.

It’s so detailed, I almost can’t think of anything it’s missing. I will absolutely be grabbing a copy when it’s out

I liked the recipe types included in this book but I always think pictures are a very important element of a great cookbook and this one could use more.

The recipes are unique and sound delicious and the ingredients seem easy to find.

I saved these recipes for later:
Kimchi ramen
Chicken Meatball Soup with Farfalle & Spinach
Macaroni & Cheese Soup
Tomato Soup with Cheddar Cheese Dumplings
Corn & Plantain Soup
Artichoke à la Barigoule
Spicy Tomato & Egg Drop Soup
Barley & Sausage Soup
Korean Beef & Rice Soup
Velvety Chicken & Chestnut Soup

Thanks for the early edition arc NetGalley!

All in all, this cookbook is a comprehensive and important resource for soups and stews. I'm definitely planning to buy it and give it a place of honor in my kitchen this autumn and winter. It's going to take a lot of guesswork out of meal planning. Most of the recipes within seem to cater to servings for a family of four; I love having leftovers, so plan to double the recipes. I'll definitely prioritize soup recipes that tend to freeze well, so I have soup on hand for nights when we're sick, extra tired or have had long workdays.

I definitely recommend adding "The Encyclopedia of Soups & Stews" to your cookbook arsenal.

Soups, soups, and more soups. This might be one of my favorite cook books ever. The recipes are structured, clear, and easy to understand. The pictures feel pretty accurate for what the recipe should look like. And most importantly, this liquid goddess has range. Think of a soup/bisque/chowder/noodle~ish type and it’s in here. You’re craving dumplings? Done. Crab and avocado chilled soup? Didn’t know that was a thing, but I’ll be trying next. Wednesday’s vegetarian night? Don’t you worry one bit, little soup friends.

If you love soup, then you’ll love this. My husband has banned me from buying more books…until I finish organizing our home office/library. I’m a chronic procrastinator, and there’s always something else more fun to do. When I tell you I’m actively shelving books right now, I mean it lol (alphabetically, because when I stop procrastinating I do stuff right).

My only critique is that I wish there were more pictures. When this says ‘encyclopedia’ it means it. I’m not irked because this book is dense with recipes, but I can see this potentially bothering others.

Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.

This is an amazing cookbook filled with so many amazing recipes. There are tons of different soups and stews that I love ❤️ but just haven't made for years. Some that I have had at restaurants but never taken the time to find recipes to try to make myself. I am excited to try the broccoli cheddar soup. 😋 I have tried several different recipes of that in the past and still haven't found one that is quite right, so am hoping this will be the one!

Would definitely recommend this!

Content-wise, this is an excellent book which I was fortunate to review as soups and stews are a large part of our family life.
There were many new recipes that I had not come across, and loved the combinations of various ingredients/vegetables that I had not seen elsewhere as well as some staples.

As for the layout and presentation, I suffer from digital book reading, and always find these books much more appealing and inspiring in print.

I will check it out and probably purchase the print version if it looks better than the digital one.
Please note that this is more richness in variety and quantity focused, and does not have mouth=watering pictures all across, but that is not to say that the design is bad. It is decent, and has some good pictures.

As fall approaches, I am beginning to crave soups more and more. I saved so many recipes from this book and cannot wait to stock my freezer with them so I can enjoy throughout the year. A wonderful books to reference when you are in a soup rut. Thank you to @netgalley, @cidermillpress, and The Coastal Kitchen for the advanced copy.

This book is for all the soup lovers out there! (Me. I am the soup lover.)

The organization is both beautiful and functional, with soups categorized by their primary ingredient (pasta, vegetable, chicken, pork, seafood, etc.), and each section marked with a different color. I was especially excited by the inclusion of a dessert soups section, something I hadn’t encountered before, and the appendix of accompaniments.

While visually striking, I do wish it included more photographs. Yes, it’s a book about soups and I should already have a general sense of the end product, but visuals are always helpful (and enticing!).

Unlike many cookbooks, this one doesn’t include stories or personal touches with each recipe, but honestly, I didn’t miss them. It’s straightforward and practical.

Thank you to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for this advanced copy. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.

Thankyou to netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. As soon as I saw this cookbook I knew I had to read it because I'm loving making soups and stews recently in my new casserole dish and slow cooker however this book didn't inspire me as much as I thought it would. There aren't many pictures and I like the see the end product to know how it should look and if it look appealing to me. It looked like an old fashioned cookbook which I'm sure some people would love the aesthetic of but I much prefer pictures and a little more modern of a set up.

Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book, however, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Firstly, if you're like me and every season is soup season, then this is a great resource for you to have. It has a wide variety of soups from different parts of the world and many of them feel fairly accessible in terms of ingredients. If you can't find something there is probably a local substitute that would work well enough. I know that some of the chili peppers I had never heard of, but I'm sure that there is something that provides that extra flavor, but is local that could do it. If not, I have to admit that I am lucky enough to have a global market near me. I'm really excited to try out some of the Asian soups, but the top of my list is probably the Tunisian Butternut Squash soup.

I found the book to overall be well organized by either protein or other distinguishing feature like noodles or beans. I will say that I agree with some of the other reviewers in saying that I would have enjoyed more pictures. Some said you first eat with your eyes and I'm also very inspired to cook something based on pictures. However, my biggest gripe, also mentioned by some other reviewers, would be the recipes that are white printed on beige/peach background. It could be that the color is off on the digital copy, but they were almost impossible to read. Not to brag, but I'm relatively young, if someone like my mother (whom I think I might purchase a copy of it for) were to try to read it, it would probably be impossible. This wasn't every recipe, but enough to be noticeable. Others mentioned that this lacks nutritional facts, that doesn't personally bother me as much. I'm more interested in learning more about the soups themselves, but I understand that you can't put everything into one book and have it still be affordable and not a thousand pages.

Overall, though, I think this is a great resource for soup lovers. With a few additional pictures and a change in font color on a few pages it would be perfect. I'm excited to add a copy of this to my kitchen library. Now, if you'll excuse me I have a date with a butternut squash.

Broad range of ideas; steps outside the old tired collection of tradtional soups.
Particularly enjoyed hte ASian influences.

However, font colour choice (white) on light coloured pages (beige) put me off enough that I would not consider purchasing this book.

Thank you to Cider Mill Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Firstly, this book contains a great selection. It really is a plethora of great sounding recipes to try. There is more than enough to see you through cosy season and beyond. The images that are in there are great - nicely staged pictures and the food looks yum!

I want more pictures - maybe I’m a visual learner, but I want to see what I’m making. Now I appreciate that soups can all look pretty alike, I get that, but I still want to see please!

Secondly, there is no nutritional value for the recipes. So that restricts these recipes from anyone who may be calorie counting, or maybe just being more aware of what they are putting in their body.

Finally, I did think some of the ingredients were hard to come by. I’m in the UK, and wouldn’t know where to even start looking for some of the ingredients mentioned. Not loads of recipes, but a handful at least.

I have earmarked a few recipes to try this autumn - so here’s hoping they taste as good as they look!

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews is a chunky book filled with over 300 different soup and stew recipes for hearty eaters.
This is a great book for any soup and stew lover, and with autumn and winter fast approaching, it's definitely one to check out.
The recipes and instructions all fill one page for each recipe and every (approx) 4-5 pages, there's a photograph page of one dish. I know this is an encyclopedia type recipe book, but I do wish there had been more photographs included, even just a small one on each page to show what the dish looks like. This is quite important to me with recipe books.
The instructions seem easy to follow, and there are some very tasty sounding dishes listed.
Reading the netgalley widget, there were many pages I couldn't read due to the font going very strange and unreadable, so I did miss maybe 40 dishes from the book.

With fall around the corner, The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews is a great book to have on hand. It’s packed with a wide mix of recipes from different cuisines, so there's always something new to try.

That said, a few things could be improved. Some pages are hard to read because of the white font on light backgrounds, which can be annoying when you're in the middle of reading (or cooking). Also, the photos could’ve been better quality—they don’t really do the dishes justice.

Overall though, it’s a solid collection if you’re looking to expand your soup and stew game.

The Encyclopedia of Soups and Stews is a well thought out collection of recipes for over 300 soups & stews. I consider myself a newbie when it comes to soups and stews. Up until recently I semi-avoided them, not loving the versions I had during childhood.

I found the introduction informative and the breakdown by types of soups/stews easy to navigate. The instructions are concise and look easy to follow. I like that each recipe includes the serving size and the active and total time to prepare. I do wish there was a calorie per serving estimation but maybe you just want to enjoy these tasty recipes without thinking about calories!

I like the images, they are cozy and real. I do wish there were more though.

Thank you to NetGalley & Cider Mill Press for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

I am a sucker for a good cookbook, and I loved this one!

The dishes are warm, feel like home, and are also not too intimidating. This cookbook is genuinely an encyclopedia, and the photos are truly phenomenal.
