my oh my what a beautiful book. it felt like this author had put there whole heart and soul into this book. it was clever, so tight and smartly plotted. the details and depth were like we were reading Shadley's own story because of how personal and known it felt. the words flowed off the page and through your soul.
i loved getting to know all of the characters in this book. it was almost like we were getting more stories in one. but then they somehow were woven together as a whole too.
there was some powerful parts to this book. some really tough parts but some beautiful and hopeful ones too.
i cant imagine my mum disappearing. the thought of it being instant and then nothing since?.... oh i cant even begin to fathom it!
i wanted to hug the their family members sometimes and at others i wanted to shake them. i could also see how their experience had imprinted so much on them too.
and yes before closure? what does it take before closure happens. and on so many things that could be related to in this book. and you were not only absorbed and rooted to the seat wanting to think over this story and the characters within. but also sat there for a while sitting and mulling over your own thoughts.
i was sat and staying sat until the end of this book because i needed to know how all our characters would fair. i deeply care for them by the end. well, actually that a lie i cared for them almost instantly.
this book brought me peace. it made me have few unshed tears. and it also somehow made me smile too. i cant believe this could be Shadley's first book? and if so i cant wait for more. although im not sure as this was so beautifully told it felt like he was giving a piece of his soul to us in this level of writing. i dont like to think of having to pull that from him again! but i might if it brings us another book like this one. but bravo for that brave step. it must be so scary knowing this has been your whole story and yours alone for so long. the authors sit and create these stories and then have to make that leap into the unknown when its no longer there's but all of us now too. but im happy, so happy we get to share it.

The plot description is what sold me on this book but reading it was a stunning and magical experience. So many relatable themes and I fell in love with each family member so much so that I was either scolding them out loud or cheering them on. If I had to sum it up - the title is accurate - this book is about what happens to a family as they seek closure, on many different things. Beautiful writing, genius plot, a new favorite of mine!
