A heart warming Christmas war romance that’s impossible to put down! I can’t wait for the next installment - and I hope Alice’s love makes it past El Almain and DDay.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel set in WW II in the East End of London during Christmas 1942. Alice is a member Women’s Auxiliary Air Force and part of team manning one of the barrage balloons helping protect the city from the constant onslaught of Germans bombs. Alice, a widow, volunteered for the war effort and has made dear friendships with the other women she live with above a local pub. Her world is upended when she meets a charming American military man, Brogan Rafferty in the most embarrassing of circumstances. As the local women's volunteer group plans a fun Christmas party for the neighborhood children, Alice and Brogan’s lives begin to intersect in ways they could not have foreseen. Can Alice put aside her fears and love again and can Brogan ever settle down? This is a charming love story set against a backdrop of both the horror and triumphs of war and the human spirit.

I enjoyed the way Jean Fullerton writes a strong story and thought the character development worked in this story and had that historical concept that I wanted. This was a strong sequel in the East End Girls series, it had that feel that I was looking for and enjoyed how it improved on the previous entry. The characters were everything that I was looking for and was invested in what was going on and was hooked from the first page.
