I found this such an enjoyable holiday read - funny and heartwarming. A bit different from the normal run of the mill rom coms.

Don’t Get Me Wrong is the story of Kim, an idealistic environmentalist, and Harry, a London banker. They’re not friends, in fact they’re more like enemies, but they remain connected to each other through Kim’s sister and Harry’s best friend, Eva.

This book appealed to me because it was recommended for readers who enjoyed Jojo Moyes, and it sounded like it would be right in my wheelhouse. I’m a sucker for will-they-won’t-they love stories, so I was interested in Don’t Get Me Wrong.

For me, this story fell flat. The characters remained one-dimensional with little growth throughout the book. Kim’s dislike of Harry goes beyond frenemies -- she’s downright nasty to him, seemingly apropos of nothing. She’s very inflexible in her judgment of him and insistence that she knows his true character. There never was a reason for her hatred that explained its depth and rancor. My dislike of Kim tainted the rest of the book for me.

I had a hard time believing Harry would take Kim’s abuse for years and still be interested in her romantically. I didn’t get a good sense of what would draw Harry to Kim.

The point of view switches between Kim and Harry throughout the novel, which can be jarring at times. We sometimes jump forward multiple years in the timeline without much preamble or explanation.

Don’t Get Me Wrong is a book I really wanted to like. Unfortunately, for me this was not one I would recommend.
