Oscar Wilde’s Stories for Children were written in the 19th century and the time period is very much reflected in the prose. The stories themselves are, obviously, beautifully written but are best seen as morality tales. The plots of the stories reflect the more famous stories from Hans Christian Andersen or the Brothers Grimm in many ways but are far less brutal, for want of a better word, and have a much more openly religious basis. They are very readable and often funny though and the illustrations in this edition are beautiful, combining to make a lovely volume of stories.

A beautiful collection of the classic writer Oscar Wilde’s bedtime stories for children. This book shares six of his most famous pieces of his magical work.
If you love classic stories then I think you’d really enjoy reading these, they read true to the era written. Using plenty of old style language, taking you on very whimsical journey’s with each of the tales.
The stories though are beautiful would be something eclectic. This style of story isn’t really something everyone enjoys in today society, though the stories are still timeless full of wonder, magic, whimsy. You never know where each of the strories will take you, which characters you will meet along the way.
This is a wonderful book, perfect for collecting its full of lovely illustrations throughout sharing what the characters in each story look like, what the described locations look like and even most of the pages come with a lovely boarder decorated. It’s certainly a sweet gift for anyone that loves this authors work, for a child that enjoys unique whimsy stories or just to have a beautiful short stories book on your shelves.
