Arc review
Comes out: August 26th
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
“Once you see the evil that men can do, the marks they leave don’t ever go away, but I promise you if you keep going… they fade.”
Audra, lead detective on a remote Alaskan island, must solve a series of murders, including the town's therapist, and the disappearance of three girls. Valorie, the daughter of a cult leader, is her main suspect, but the truth behind the murders remains elusive.
On today’s episode of “wtf did I just read” (In the BEST way!) Welcome to a small town in Alaska where people go missing and you truly never know who you can trust.
This book was absolutely INSANE. I was screaming wtf probably the last 150 pages of it. The twists and turns of literally almost every character in this story was crazy.
It was honestly a wild and fun ride. I was lucky enough to get the audiobook version of it and stayed up late just to finish. Once again, a mother’s love feels heavy in this story. Audra is such a strong person. She fights for what is right in this book, man does she fight hard. The trauma that every woman endures is crazy.
The narrator did such an amazing job. I felt completely in the story while everything was happening. This book does have a lot of triggers so please check the TW. But if you don’t have any and like spooky books then this is a must!
Thank you so much @netgalley and dreamscape media for this wonderful opportunity to listen to this book!

Ohhhkkkk. This was a super dark, eerie, immersive listen. Obsessed. Cult vibes, split personalities (that we get multi POV’s of), thriller, HORROR. Lots of twists and turns and the ending went OFF. The narrator was fantastic. HIGHLY recommend this one!

"Befriending monsters is justified if it saves the people you love"
Audra is a small town detective trying to find some missing girls, then her best friend is murdered. As Audra gets deeper into her investigation, she starts to realize how twisted the town is and intwined in a cult.
The narrative unfolds through a compelling blend of past and present timelines, gradually revealing the town’s twisted history. The pacing keeps you hooked with every revelation. I love trying to guess the ending of thrillers, but this one completely blindsided me due to the supernatural aspects that I don't want to spoil.
The narrator delivers a stellar performance, striking the perfect balance of emotion and tension that makes the story even more immersive. Their voice adds a layer of authenticity and urgency that kept me captivated from start to finish.
And the cover? Absolutely brilliant. At first glance, it reminded me of Bird Box, which is exactly why I requested the ARC, but as the story unfolds, you begin to understand the deeper symbolism behind the artwork. It’s haunting, evocative, and perfectly aligned with the tone of the book.
Thank you to Netgalley, Monique Asher, and Dreamscape Media for an advanced copy. My review is voluntary and honest.

Thank you, Netgalley, for an advanced copy of this book.
I was intrigued to see if I would like this book, I have been in & out of being engaged with the story... the story is a thriller mystery with a twist of horror in it. In this book, I enjoyed that we had themes that added to the story
( ⚠️content warning ⚠️ ) This book has cults and mental health as in (D.I.D) Dissociative Identity Disorder , kidnapping, murder, gore, rape, cheating, death, and even other themes like religious indoctrination.
being set on an isolated small island makes the story more impactful because you feel the isolation & how the rituals of daily life are different because of what they are brought up in, it also made me stick in to listening to the audiobook finding out about a secret cult that not many know and if they are they are hidding it and covering up for it.
the narrator did a good job in bringing in more emotions to this story and having you care for the characters.
did enjoy and recommend

id say this book leans more towards a 3.5 for me !! i was very entranced by the creepiness and how well done the imagery of this book was, it was very atmospheric and made me feel like i was almost there. i grew up in alaska which is what really led me into requesting this book, my friends and i as kids LOVED making up creepy stories at sleepovers so i thought that this book would be really fun and a bit nostalgic for me.
over all i had a great time with listening to this book, there were times where it felt a little dragged on and i often found myself getting confused by who was who as there were quite a lot of characters to keep track of but other than that i was hooked. i often found myself audibly going “what the fuck” over something insane lol. the plot twist at the end was good, its one of those that feels a bit obvious after the fact but when it’s revealed your jaw drops a bit lol.
