𝓯𝓲𝓻𝓼𝓽‼️ i would like to give a HUGE thanks to netgalley, the publisher, and the queen ann liang herself. i genuinely screamed in the bathroom at school in excitement when i got notified my arc request was accepted. im so grateful.
now i knew this would eat bc it’s an ann liang book and ann is incapable of writing something bad.
i was indeed proved correct. mother fed us omfg. i am so happy i got the arc. i would literally go to the moon and give it to ann liang as thanks (get it?? bc of the title- sorry im not funny😔) for an arc copy i noticed no grammar/spelling mistake other than one nauseas instead of nauseous and genuinely most published books have WAYY more typos/grammatical errors. there was not a SINGLE issue other than that.

I’ve been looking forward to reading this for a while and I’m glad it didn’t disappoint. Although I’ve enjoyed Liang’s past few books, this felt like more of a return to how IYCSTS and IHTDFY were written. Chanel was so fun, she’s rich, vain, yet self-aware, and caring toward others. She’s highly calculating and she met her match with Ares. I appreciated how Liang wrote Ares’ character, it was very refreshing. There was no acting with him, he was honest and him and Chanel made so much sense together. I loved their relationship dynamic. This is the first time that the author wrote a dual POV story and I thought she did a good job. It was interesting to see his perspective, my only complaint was that I wish his chapters were written in first person instead of second person. I do hope that Liang writes more dual POV books.
Chanel’s relationship with both of her parents was explored and I thought it felt very realistic. Chanel’s mom drove me crazy at times, but I appreciated the growth written into her character.
I enjoyed the plot itself. It was high stakes enough to keep the tension going, yet there were slower moments in the story that allowed the character’s relationships with one another to develop well. The pacing was great, I never felt bored, and the humor was understated and never felt forced. I do wish a few plot points had been expanded on a bit more, to make it feel more realistic, and that we had gotten a proper resolution on one important point. There was one detail with Ares and his dad that I just felt was really unbelievable, and I wish it had been changed.
I’m so glad I got to read this arc and I think people who loved Liang’s other books will love this one too.
thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book!

I Could Give You the Moon by Ann Liang • ⭐⭐⭐

✨ Review ✨
Thank you Harper Teen and NetGalley for this ARC!!
Unfortunately, this book wasn’t really for me. I just can’t get over when the MC is so self-centered and fake. I understand that Chanel was raised as a socialite, but it bothered me that she didn’t really have a character arc with her personality until the last few chapters where she was a little softer. For me, the overall execution wasn’t great, and much of the story felt rushed while minuscule details (i.e. the room, an outfit, etc.) dragged on.
This was my first Ann Liang book, and while I was disappointed, I’m not completely writing her out as an author. I do own two of her other books already, so I’m hoping those will be better fit for me.

Ann Liang has a strong writing style for this type of book, I was invested in the romance going on. It had that element that I enjoyed from If You Could See the Sun and was invested from start to finish. I was engaged with the characters and how their story was told, I enjoyed the influencer element and glad I got to go on this journey with them. I really enjoyed this as a romance novel and that it worked well in world perfectly.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of I COULD GIVE YOU THE MOON, but this one… of my god, this one… stunning. such a good and fun read with characters who grow and evolve.

🌆 ₊˚.꒱ thoughts.
⟡ i'm pleasantly surprised by how much i liked this! ann liang is a very hit-or-miss author for me, and i wasn't a fan of if you could see the sun, so i went into this with fairly low expectations, but ended up really enjoying it. this book has a more mature tone as compared to her earlier books, and i think this style really fits the story. i'd love to see more books with this vibe from her.
⟡ ann's writing absolutely shines in here. even though i've disliked a lot of her books, i will always appreciate her prose—it's beautiful and lyrical, but not overtly flowerly. all of her books are immersive and compulsively readable. i adored the darker setting of the story! the dual pov worked really well and added a lot of depth to both mcs.
⟡ the main focus of this book is definitely the romance, and it shows. while i liked the plot, it did feel haphazard and random. the story felt unrealistic at times and the amount of miscommunication was annoying. the characters aside from chanel and ares were underdeveloped and didn't have much depth. i enjoyed chanel and ares' scenes and their romance, but if you're reading this mainly for the plot you might be disappointed.
🌆 ₊˚.꒱ characters.
⋆.˚ chanel cao. ᝰ.ᐟ
she's a queen! she came off as a bit spoiled in the starting, and i did find it slightly ridiculous how her main goal in life was to be crowned prom queen, but she had a lot of growth and i really loved her character. she's so sweet and caring, absolute it girl energy.
however, chanel's story wasn't developed enough. there's only one brief scene of her interacting with her father, and aside from that he's never really addressed. also, the way chanel's relationship with her mother was written felt weird. her mother was a terrible parent—she was self-centered, encouraged chanel to develop disordered eating behaviors and fit into toxic beauty standards, and it's clear that their relationship was not good. but in the end, she just suddenly redeemed herself, which felt really abrupt and confusing. i think her family plotline needed to be focused on much more.
⋆.˚ ares yin. ᝰ.ᐟ
look. i adore ares, he is the definition of "if he wanted to, he would". i loved seeing him slowly becoming soft for chanel and all the sweet things he did for her! however, i don't think he was a very well written character. his backstory and the plotline with his brother felt very surface level and needed more detail. despite ares' main goal being to find his missing brother, we don't even see a scene of them interacting until over halfway into the book. ares' strained relationship with his father is mentioned frequently but again, we pretty much never see them interact, and his family situation isn't really resolved by the end of the book. his story felt incomplete.
⋆.˚ chanel + ares. ᝰ.ᐟ
i loved them together! slightly rushed but the grumy x sunshine dynamic was adorable and their scenes together were perfect. i loved seeing them break each other's walls down and slowly come to trust and love each other. the pining and tension was insane. also, the lipstick scene, hello? they're so hot i want both of them 🫦
⤿ sidenote: the alicehenry cameo was really cute! i didn't care much for them before but they were adorable here. need them to go on a double date with chanel and ares please and thank you.

this is definitely in my top 3 ann liang books! i binged it in a day and absolutely adored the romance and setting. i do think some things could have been more developed, but overall, i really enjoyed this and hope ann writes more in this tone.

thanks to netgalley and the publisher for giving me an advance readers copy in exchange for my honest review!
five stars across the board in every aspect! i had wished to know about chanel from the first book about alice and henry and im so glad that she got her own book! she’s such a relatable character (even though she’s rich) and i resonated with some of her insecurities.
ares…… wowie. he’s just wow. i didn’t quite understand what some other reviewers had to complain about him. i think he was perfect. he didn’t know why chanel was acting the way that she was, and of course there’s the vision that she’s somehow tied into. so i completely get why he was standoffish with her for a majority of the book. you also have to think about the fact that his brothers missing and he doesn’t have contact with his father. how do you expect someone to act when they are suddenly getting showered with attention when they are used to not getting any?
i think this was a great story, and if ann liang decides to continue in this universe i will be sat and waiting for anything and everything.

Thank you, Miss Ann, for taking us back to the If You Could See the Sun world. I Could Give You the Moon was everything I dreamed Chanel’s story would be like. Ann Liang has a beautiful way with her words that keeps making me want to read more and more of her works, hence making her one of my favourite authors.
I Could Give You the Moon follows Chanel and Ares, who meet and share a vision of the future – where Ares’s brother, who went missing, appears as Chanel’s house burns to the ground – and they are determined to use each other. Ares believes Chanel is the key to finding his brother, but Chanel is convinced if she gets Ares to fall in love with her, she’ll save her family house. But Ares isn't interested in the fake personality that Chanel has used her entire life to get affection and adoration. If she's going to save her reputation, she's going to have to let Ares get to know the real her – and risk real feelings.
Characters
Chanel—Mastermind coded
Every Ann Liang book I think, ‘She can’t write another character I resonate with so much,’ but she ends up writing another character who I resonate with a lot in a different way. Chanel, my girl, it was so nice to meet her again. I loved being inside Chanel’s head; it was quite interesting to read her thought process. That’s my girl, and if anyone says anything against her, they will be having a word with me.
Ares—I Look in People’s Window coded
This book convinced me that Ann Liang needs to write more dual POV books. It is always so fun to see characters fall for each other and deny their feelings; dual POV increases the fun tenfold. My dude Ares has gone through so much; I wish he never had a bad day ever again. What do you mean he has to participate in fighting matches to know more about his brother’s whereabouts? 😭.
Alice and Henry cameo
It was incredible to see my beloved couple back. My dear Alice was in a no body, no crime mood, and Henry was ready to help her. I love a couple who are ready to commit crimes together.
The Plot
I liked how the magical realism portion was executed, how it intervened in Chanel and Ares’s lives. The speed of the book was nice and constant; at no point did I feel like the pace needed to be slower or faster. Chanel and Ares's romance was OH MY 🤚😩. Miss Liang has mastered the art of writing a remarkable YA romance, and each of her books has a very memorable scene (Chanel getting ready in the morning and Ares applying lipstick on her). This book was definitely darker than other Ann books, as the stakes were incredibly high. After finishing I Could Give You the Moon, I felt like now I need an Ann Liang adult modern romance novel.
This book was showstopping, and if you liked The First Frost, Twelve Letters and If You Could See the Sun, read this book!!!

Synopsis:
Brought together by a mysterious vision in the lake, Ares and Chanel both have something at stake. For Ares, it is finding his lost brother, and for Chanel it is her house burning down. For Ares, Chanel just might be the key to finding his brother. For Chanel, making Ares fall in love with her is the key to potentially saving her house which might require for once letting her mask off and letting Ares in...
Review:
I loved this book. I could not put it down because it was so good. I think that given there was a vision of the future, there were still some twists when it came to the plot that made it still exciting. I loved how the plot worked where they both were kind of working against each other's interest, well, mainly Chanel trying to foil Ares' plans, but it makes perfect sense based on the characters. As far as characters go, I really enjoyed Chanel and Ares. I found Chanel to be really charming. She can be funny at times, and her shenanigans to get Ares' attention cracked me up. Ares mysteriousness definitely added intrigue at the beginning, and I enjoyed getting to see more revealed about him as the story progressed, He ultimately is someone, who cares and loves deeply about those closest to him, and that part of him shines with him and Chanel's relationship. The romance was so cute and well-done. I enjoyed the build up to their relationship, and how there were so many good small moments and details that really elevated it and made it so much cuter. I also am a sucker for a man that spoils his woman, and Ares does that especially at the end, so that is another bonus. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it.

Finally, Chanel's story!
I was so excited to hear that we would be able to read about Chanel's story and more about the drama of Airington High School. I reallllly enjoyed the cameo of Alice and Henry! I loved the glimpses of Chanel in the previous book so this was exciting.
Was it cheesy? Yes. Was it too cheesy? At times, yes.
Did it bring the YA drama? Yes. Was it overly dramatic? Sometimes.
All the romance tropes? Yes. Was it too much? No, I enjoyed it!
Was it my favorite Ann Liang book? No, probably not.
A small critique, as a lover of slow burns, I felt like the initial chemistry between Ares and Chanel could have capitalized on a bit more angst and a bit more drawn out. The chase felt a bit short, especially since Chanel goes out of her way to seduce him. But once the fire was lit, the chemistry was great and really fun to read!
Ann's writing is always superior and I've read almost all of her books already. I love her consistent incorporation of Chinese culture in her stories. I love that she doesn't always translate the Chinese phrases. Her stories make me feel so seen.
A heartfelt thank you to Netgalley, HarperCollins Children's Book, and Ann Liang for an advanced reader copy!

I liked this a lot! It's easily my favorite book by Ann Liang so far, out of the handful that I've read. Both Chanel and Ares felt like real people, their interactions were believable, their chemistry didn't feel forced, and their decisions made sense within the context of their personalities and pasts. There were real stakes with real consequences; the dire circumstances resulted in an outcome that wasn't perfect, and I appreciated that. I Could Give You the Moon also felt like magical realism at its best. I think it helped to have an established world with a bit of inexplicable magic, as it was not entirely unfamiliar to Chanel, allowing the plot to progress more smoothly than it might have otherwise. But even without that cushion, this probably would have been a 4/5 star read.
While most of the issues I've had with Ann Liang's previous works weren't present in this one, this time I felt like some aspects of the story were rushed. Certain scenes really needed more page time to breathe, especially when the scene itself felt so realistic. But aside from that, this was a great book. Liang's writing has been solid since her debut, but I think this is her best yet. Definitely add it to your TBR!

Review: 4.5 stars
I enjoyed Alice and Henry’s romance story in her debut, If You Could See the Sun and was so excited that Alice’s bestie and roommate, Chanel Cao is finally getting her own book!
Chanel Cao is in the midst of helping one of her friends catch her cheating scumbag boyfriend in the act at an exclusive restaurant. She did not expect to run into Ares, the mysterious new transfer student. Intrigued by his presence, she secretly follows him to the park where a hidden lakeside spot reveals visions of the future through the reflection of the moon on the water. There, Chanel sees visions that scare her with Ares in the crux of it all. In order to avoid those visions from coming to life, she uses her manipulations and charms on Ares to bring him closer to her and does not tell him about her visions. Meanwhile, Ares has some family secrets that very much go against Chanel's agenda…Will they unwittingly end up on opposite sides?
I always love Ann’s writing and this does not disappoint! Her writing always has a hint of lyrical to it and is so bingeable. I love that this is in dual povs as it added more depth to both Chanel and Ares’s characters. I love their interactions together as they started out as strangers with secret agendas and as they slowly got closer, the masks came off where Chanel isn’t the rich and shallow she is made out to be and Ares isn’t as mysterious and broody as he is made out to be. The slow burn and the yearning here is lit and the way Ares treats Chanel is the sweetest - they both struggled against falling for each other but couldn’t help themselves and it was so satisfying to them act on it.
My only nitpick is the plot and relatability. Oftentimes, I do find myself relating to a lot of the MCs that Ann writes because I have been in their shoes..With Chanel, I struggle to connect with her as a character - I felt like there could be a bit more depth to be added to her character to make her more relatable. Because the romance is heavy here, it felt like the characters’ development was a little lacking in this once.
The cameos with Alice and Henry were wonderful and great to see. I hope Ann writes more novels featuring more Airington characters.
Ann Liang is definitely in her romance era as this brings the feels, the banter, the sweet, the romance and the oh so delicious yearning with a tickle of angst plus some magical realism thrown in. I binged this in one sitting and did not regret it - hehehe!
Thank you Harper Collins Ca for the eARC via Netgalley

I Could Give You the Moon, a companion novel to Ann Liang’s debut If You Could See the Sun, missed the mark for me. No one is sadder than I am that I am giving it 3 stars.
While I loved Chanel in IYCSTS, I found her less relatable here. That’s probably because she’s the central character rather than a secondary one (and so her flaws are magnified), but I’ve loved all of Ann Liang’s past female leads so I’m really disappointed to not love Chanel in this. What I loved about Ann Liang’s protagonists was their relatability. Their desire to be seen, to be loved, to be wanted. To be more than they perceived they were. And there are threads of that here, with Chanel, but I feel like this character work was really overshadowed by the seriousness of the main plot (arson, kidnapping, illegal fight clubs…?). We can see that Chanel wants to be loved and intimately known… but it’s also told to us, really, rather than shown in the kind of way I’m used to with this author. The last two chapters, especially, were guilty of this.
Ares, too, is… fine? This is definitely one of her more mature YA novels, and he’s got the backstory to go with it. His younger brother went missing, his father hates him, and he’s been blaming himself for his brother’s disappearance for the past three years. In a desperate effort to find his brother, he winds up joining an illegal underground fight club.
The start of their romance really rests with Chanel’s decision to manipulate Ares into liking her so that he will 1) eventually ask her to prom and therefore, 2) not be available to burn her house down. I don’t love that their romance starts with such a big deception, and I also felt like this was never really addressed. The book’s synopsis also implies that this manipulation was a two-way street, but I really didn’t get any of that from Ares’s POVs.
All in all, this was still very readable, and I loved seeing the Alice/Henry cameos as well as seeing more of Chanel Cao. Ann Liang's writing is still very good, and I found myself, as always, highlighting passages I just adored. I think it’s just that this was not the romance story for me. Luckily, I have several other Ann Liang books to turn to when I need a fix, and it’s entirely possible I may enjoy this more with a re-read later down the line.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins Children’s for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I'm sill not over this read but let me tell it was something. For me there was enough of plot and moment in this book it was perfect. At first I couldn't get past the fantasy /myth plot I was so close to DNF-ing it (but that is just me because I don't read fantasy). If you are starting your YA journey I really recommend this book and all of other books by Ann Liang.

I feel obligated to start off this review by saying: it’s not the book, it’s me.
I Could Give You the Moon has so many things about it that would work for so many readers: a confident, charming heroine who’s dealing with her own personal issues despite her outwards appearance of success, the “bad boy” (who isn’t actually bad at all) she finds herself falling in love with, Liang’s usual injection of a magical realism-esque lite fantasy thread, vivid descriptions that make you feel like you are transported to upper-class Beijing.
Ultimately, though, I just could not fully connect to Chanel Cao, our uber-rich, uber-famous influencer protagonist. While her family struggles and trust issues are sad on paper, I just couldn’t bring myself to feel that bad for this extremely privileged girl and her extremely privileged love interest. And that’s why I want to emphasize that my experience with this book is a personal thing. I don’t think books should be judged by how relatable I find the protagonist.
In some ways, this book is more mature than Liang’s other works, but it still reads very young. There is a lot of repetition in Chanel describing how she is feeling. The adult characters can sometimes feel like caricatures. Characters who are not Chanel and Ares are very two-dimensional. Again, these things are true of Liang’s other books and don’t really bother me, but it doesn’t provide much else for me to grapple on to when I’m struggling to connect with our narrators.
This book also placed more emphasis on the romance than the other books I have read by Liang, which were much more about the heroine’s personal journeys. There was still plenty of romance, but it was also easier for me to feel something for their relationships when I was invested in the heroines themselves. Sadly, that was not the case here.
I’ll still definitely tune in for Liang’s future releases, but I suppose I prefer her more… pathetic protagonists. Chanel Cao is simply too rich and too cool for me.

i was SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK!
ann liang never disappoints, and she definitely did not with this masterpiece.
beautifully written. i was captured from the beginning to end and just devoured this.
and to think it all started with a vision... during the highest point of the moon connecting two unlikely people.

Reading Ann Liang's book was definitely a new experience for me. With such a beautiful cover and a very exciting synopsis, this book really caught my attention. Sadly, this book won't leave a lasting impression on me. But I'd still recommend it for those who are really looking forward to it.

the day 1 best girl in if you could see the sun, i was so happy she was getting a spin off story and a romance of her own. i loved getting to know her better and watch her character grow throughout the story. despite her shallow self and hollowness, there was a endless chasm of expectation and perfection that she had curated herself to be in. i loved watching her character grow throughout the book as she grew to become more down to earth and appreciate the little things and moments which truly bring her joy. ann liang fmcs are such a power house and chanel is no acception, i love her so much.

The plot of this book is wild, I was so excited for this one since I have been reading all of Ann Liang's books the past month or so. Chanel & Ares are great characters and while there was a bit too much miscommunication for my tastes this was still a very enjoyable read - this doesn't quite live up to If You Could See The Sun for me personally but is a close second

A really cute sequel to her previous book and such an interesting approach to some new fresh characters. Really easy and fun read that I flew through
