This book was such a ride. I was totally into all the twists and turns - it kept me guessing the whole way through. The dual POVs and the back-and-forth between past and future were done so well. It made everything feel bigger and multi-layered in the best way.

Robinson thinks his wife McKenna died in this magical fire, and he’s about to level up in this powerful magic order but surprise, she’s alive and in serious danger. From there it’s just non-stop action, secrets, betrayal, and a lot of emotional moments that hit hard.

I loved how both characters had their own journeys and how their stories slowly came back together. It’s got that epic fantasy feel but also feels super personal and emotional at the same time.

If you're into magic, romance, and timelines that mess with your head a little (in a good way), definitely check this one out. I need more!

Book 3 of The Invisible College Series

Set in a world fractured by a centuries-long war, sorcerers are recruited in the hope of finally bringing peace. This installment follows Robinson and McKenna as they navigate layers of political intrigue and personal ambition. McKenna is determined to master spellcasting and claim her place as a sorcerer, while Robinson strives to rise to the highest rank within The Invisible College. But when an unexpected accident pulls them apart, both must find their way back to each other while surviving the dangers of their war-torn world.

This is one of those fantasy novels that reminds you why you love the genre. The writing is sharp and immersive, the blend of politics and magic endlessly compelling, and the tension keeps you turning pages (or listening) late into the night. I listened to the audiobook ARC, and the narrator was phenomenal—her range of voices and expressive delivery brought every character to life.

Don’t miss this gripping third installment of The Invisible College Series!

Thank you to Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.

Out September 16th, 2025 Book 3 of The Invisible College series)
In the shadow of a centuries-long war between mortalkind and the mystical Aesir, a fragile peace teeters on the brink of collapse as winter approaches—a season that emboldens the Aesir’s resurgence. At the heart of this looming conflict are two star-crossed lovers, Robinson Hawksley and McKenna, whose fates are entwined not only by love but by ancient magic. Robinson, poised to ascend to the highest rank within the Invisible College, believes McKenna has perished in a sorcerer’s fire. Yet her survival, hidden from him, becomes a pivotal thread in a tapestry of betrayal, sacrifice, and long-buried secrets.

McKenna’s abduction as a sacrificial offering to the Aesir sets in motion a desperate flight for survival and a deeper unraveling of her own mysterious past. As she navigates the treacherous terrain between captivity and freedom, Robinson is drawn into a web of political intrigue and deception within the College. Their separate journeys reveal truths about themselves and each other, challenging their perceptions of destiny and the cost of power. The narrative deftly explores the tension between personal longing and the weight of responsibility, as both characters confront the forces that seek to manipulate their choices.

Ultimately, the story is a meditation on fate and agency, where love becomes both a weapon and a refuge. The magical world they inhabit is richly layered, filled with ancient lore, shifting allegiances, and the haunting question of whether the future is written or forged. As Robinson and McKenna inch closer to reunion, the stakes rise—not just for their hearts, but for the survival of their world. Their journey is one of rediscovery, resilience, and the alchemical transformation of pain into purpose.

I’m still in absolute shock from the ending of this book—I don’t think I’ll ever recover! It was one of those rare reading experiences where I couldn’t put it down, and now that I’ve finished, I can’t stop thinking about it.

This is Book 3 in The Invisible College series, and wow… Jeff Wheeler continues to prove why he’s a master of fantasy storytelling. The world building is phenomenal—rich, unique, and yet relatable enough that you feel instantly immersed. The pacing is fierce, keeping the tension and action driving forward without ever slowing down. Add in a brilliantly crafted magic system that feels fresh and layered, and you’ve got a recipe for a story that pulls you in completely.

The characters are just as incredible as the plot, each one standing out in their own way. And I have to admit, I got such a thrill that the FMC shares my name—McKenna! 🙌 Some of the plot twists in this book were jaw-dropping, the kind that leave you breathless, reeling, and desperate to know what happens next. And then that ending… I still haven’t picked my jaw up off the floor. Now I’m dying for Book 4!

🎧 I also have to shout out the audiobook—Kate Rudd’s narration was absolutely brilliant. She captured the intensity, emotion, and drama perfectly, making the whole experience even more unforgettable.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An amazing fantasy adventure with heart, high stakes, and a world you’ll never want to leave.

Well, I’ve done it. I have once again spent nine and a half hours listening to Kate Rudd make sense of the intricate, and at times completely bonkers, world of Jeff Wheeler. And you know what? It was a glorious waste of a commute.
Rudd’s narration is, as always, an absolute masterclass in keeping a straight face while things get increasingly dramatic. She manages to imbue the most mundane of actions—like a character simply opening a door—with the kind of gravitas you’d expect from a king declaring war. Her voice for Robinson is the perfect mix of "earnest academic" and "I'm a tragic hero, please feel bad for me." And her McKenna? She sounds like a woman who is tired of running for her life, but also, has a very good reason to be.
The best part of this audiobook is definitely the "whispered secrets" section. There are so many secrets in this book that I half-expected the narrator to just start whispering every other word. You can practically hear her leaning in conspiratorially through your headphones, as if she's the one who's just learned that a long-dead relative is actually a magical, evil war-monger.
The only minor critique is that the audio production doesn't include a sound effect for me yelling, "Just talk to each other, you two!" every time Robinson and McKenna fail to have a simple conversation. A missed opportunity for immersion, truly.
For anyone who loves epic fantasy but secretly wishes it had the emotional communication skills of a teenage rom-com, this audiobook is for you. And if you're a fan of Kate Rudd's past work, you'll be happy to know she delivers another fantastic, and fantastically over-dramatic, performance. A solid listen for your next long drive or your next long, existential crisis.
