So I want to start with the art first. When I first opened this up, I thought the art was so beautiful. Like I would have hung some of these up on my wall if I could, that's how pretty they were to me. Then we got introduced to Candy Cupcake and other characters, and it looked like free clipart you could find on Canva smacked right onto the page. I don't think this is something that kids would notice or be bothered by, but as someone who would be reading this to kids, I was greatly bothered by it.
The title and blurb says this is based on folktales, but I couldn't identify a single one from this. All Candy Cupcake does is run into a new character and then run away. There really wasn't much to learn from this, which I think is a big bummer
