~ What Happens in Carolina
I really enjoyed this funny, sweet and steamy story. This is about Tina and George, the two new writers for Lawson’s Reach TV show, whom we met in the first book. They have an awkward first meet, but working together in their small space, and having different writing styles, make them a perfect writing team. They are attracted to each other from the start but this job is a big break for them and they don't want to risk this opportunity. When they are sent to Carolina to help with their writing for the show, they have one awkward, harrowing, and hilarious incident after another that causes them to finally address their attraction for each other. But what happens when they fall for each other, causing them to possibly having to choose between their dream job, and true love? I loved Tina and George and the quirky way they see life. I loved how Grey wrote this story with hilarious cartoonish descriptions that made me visualize everything so completely.
The wonderful narration by Carly Robins & Bradley Ford made this listen even more delightful. They really put their hearts into their performance, and were so in touch with their characters, Tina and George, helping me see them so clearly. This is my first listen to both narrators, and definitely want to listen to more of their work. I really enjoyed this clever story, it is a great addition to the Carolina Classics series.
~ I Want It That Way
I enjoyed everything about this slow burn, fake relationship story, the charming characters, the humor and all the feels of this sweet and sexy romance. Dani has taken care of her family for so long she feels like they are taking advantage of her, making her want to have her tubes tied. Unfortunately no Doctor will do it unless she is married. Lukas Keith, is a former childhood actor, and has returned to Wallington to work as a producer on Lawson’s Reach. He has never forgotten his beautiful driver when he was here last time, and how she made him feel. When he needs her help, he offers to marry her so she can get what she needs as well. Dani feels the need to do for herself, not relying on anyone else. Luke doesn't know who he is after being a pigeonholed child acter. They like that they both except each other for who they are, flaws and all. They both get way more out of their time together than either expected out of this arrangement. They make each other feel all kinds of things neither expected, and soon their hearts become invested. But what happens when their arrangement is complete and Luke needs to return to LA, but Dani has a life she loves in Wallington? Can they make it work long distance or is it over before it really starts, breaking both their hearts? This story really tugs at your heartstrings. Dani and Luke are the most genuine people, and are so perfect together. They help and support each other in such a beautiful way and the intimacy between them is off the charts. I also love all of their friends and family, who added so much fun, tension and warmth, making me laugh, cry, and swoon.
Narrators, Amy McFadden and Alastair Haynesbridge are both new to me and I loved listening to them both as they brought these characters, and story to life. They were perfect as Dani and Luke, balancing each characters strength and vulnerability flawlessly, and made me feel all the genuine emotions these characters felt.
I also listened to the Bonus Epilogue, that is available only to newsletter subscribers, and it was a fun addition to Dani and Luke's story. I really love this Carolina Classics series and can't wait for more!
~ When I Come Around
Ford has been in love with Whitney since they were young, but felt she was always out of his league. Ford came from a working class family and Whitney came from a home of privilege. Whitney was pressured to keep up appearances but she only felt accepted when she would sneak off to be with Ford and the rest of their friends. Ford was always there for her when she needed him, but she couldn't show him how much she cared for him. She eventually married a man who was worthy to her parents, but lost the only 'real' friends she had. When she sneaks off to her friends wedding, she collapses and almost dies, but Ford is there to catch her. After her stay in the hospital, she recovers, but has also been set free to make a new life for herself. She is determined to also make amends to the people who have always been there for her unconditionally. Ford has felt guilty for pushing Whitney to hard to be with him before. He is excited to have a second chance at convincing Whitney that they are meant for each other, but he will have to help her heal first. When they end up working on the same remote set, they feel free to finally act on the feelings they've always had for each other. But when it's time to return home, will Whitney be strong enough to face her past and move forward a stronger woman? This story made me feel so many extreme emotions. Grey weaved a story about a very sensitive issue with honesty and empathy, making my heart break and then put it back together again. I loved how she took her time with Whitney and Ford, allowing them to heal, and become stronger, and know they were worthy of love. I also loved catching up with all their friends and watching them love and support each other unconditionally, and even meddle a bit!
Ryan Lee Dunlap and Amanda Stribling were so perfectly cast to narrate this captivating, emotional, and steamy romance! They completely captured these complex characters and made me feel all the hope, heartbreak, vulnerability, love, and passion they possessed. I was completely mesmerized by their storytelling as they brought these characters and story to life.
