The first 18 chapters of Wild Reverence are breathtaking—sweeping, romantic, and brimming with tension. Rebecca Ross’s lush worldbuilding draws you straight into the dangerous, blood-soaked realm of gods, while Matilda and Vincent’s dream-born connection crackles with both longing and fate. Even as just a sampler, it feels epic, emotional, and impossible to put down. I can already tell this will be one of the standout romantasy reads of the year.

The fact that I can’t stop thinking about this book speaks for itself.
In all honesty the only reason it took me so long to finish was that I’m on a trip and the book is long to binge in one day.
I loved reading about this world once more, the little Easter eggs here and there from Letters of Enchantment were so fun I’d recommend reading the previous series that was set in this world before Wild Reverence.
The vibes were so fall and winter coded I could cry, for lovers of men who yearn you got the definition here!! Vincent, the man you are!!
Reading this book felt like going into the mists, the amounts of emotional damage, the magical setting, the immortal creatures, and world building are all impossibly, beautifully written. I immaculately drifted away while reading about all the realms and Matilda. Though I cannot emotionally recover, I loved how everything turned out and it made so much sense.
Reading this book felt poetic, it draws me inside so deep I want to live there. And no, I would never understand why would anyone hate this book, it is, by no mistake, a new favorite for me, I’ll forever cherish these words I am saying, I felt bewitched reading this book more than I have ever felt before.
Maybe I am deep in my feels and this spoke to me somehow, but isn’t that what everyone seeks? A book—or anyone, anything, really—that speaks to their soul? It seems so to me.
The narrators were pretty great, enjoyed listening to it and fell in love with this book all over again.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ALC in exchange of a honest review.

This sneak peak has me wanting more! I plan on reading or listening to the remainder of the book as soon as possible

Rebecca Ross's writing is so beautiful and cinematic. The emotion of the characters pour out through the narrators.

Building upon a world that was already very well established in her Letters of Enchantment duology, Rebecca evolves to story and universe of this story.

This clip of the book earns 5 stars , and I'm positive I would feel similarly to the book in the entirety

The first 18 chapters of Wild Reverence by Rebecca Ross immediately draw readers into a vividly imagined world full of magic, intrigue, and complex characters. The story introduces compelling conflicts, hints at political and magical power struggles, and begins to explore relationships that promise emotional depth. Even in this early portion, the prose is lush and immersive, leaving readers eager to see how the story unfolds.

I absolutely loved this sneak peek into the book! When it comes to audiobooks I tend to be very picky on the voice actors and while I didn’t fully love the voice actor, she did keep me intrigued in the story. I absolutely loved how it flowed and it makes me want to listen to the audiobook fully and hopefully purchase a physical copy of it. I started to fall in love with the characters and can’t wait to continue their story! After I am done ready the book, I will definitely post a full review on my social media.

Very excited to finish this book. At first I was alittle lost with all the world building. But that is on me...it takes me a while to separate all the regions. But this one is very good and I just cant wait.

Matilde is a young goddess, one of the divine, a child of both the Underling realm and the Skyward realm, not fully belonging to either. When the goddess of dreams allows young Matilde to read the dreams of others, Matilde finds herself appearing in those of a mortal named Vincent. Through Vincent’s dreams, a bond is forged between the two. When tragedy befalls Matilde forcing her to leave the Underling to take refuge with her previously unknown Skyward father, she no longer has access to Vincent’s dreams and must move on with her life. Until after 10 years, she is tasked with delivering a message to Vincent as part of her herald responsibilities. From this she learns of Vincent’s past struggles with a murderous family member who has shown up once again at his door with an army to try to take his throne. Matilde vows to help Vincent, as she wasn’t able to in the past.

Some authors write with such lyrical mastery that I struggle to move through the book. I find myself read and rereading the same page to absorb the language and poetry of the story. Rebecca Ross’s books have this effect on me. I love the story but I struggle to leave it behind.
Matilde and Vincent’s story is rife with yearning. They both resist being drawn together while also battling forces that try to separate them. We get to see Fate and Death at their looms, weaving and unraveling each other’s work and the impacts on both Matilde and Vincent. I enjoyed the unveiling of Matilde’s magic and how she had to come to understand the rules she had to abide by, some self-imposed.

Both Underling and Skyward and the divine residing there was such an interesting part of the story. No one was infallible. All the gods and goddesses were conniving and manipulative and had to be to protect themselves from each other. If one killed another, they became the wielder of the power from the one they killed. It is a power struggle. This was a recurring theme that even the strongest had vulnerabilities if you paid attention. Despite this, Matilde has a fierce protector in Bade, god of war, who is a steady presence in her life Under, teaching her to fight and protect herself. Every time Bade was on the page, I wanted to cheer because I knew she had a steadfast ally at her back.
Ultimately, the story was one of yearning and cunning and showing up for those you care about. Though not needed, having read the Letters of Enchantment duology prior to this book, made this one all the more magical for me.

Thank you to Rebecca Ross, NetGalley, St. Martin's Press | Saturday Books for an advanced copy of this eBook

The first few chapters of this had me hooked. The narrator is amazing! I was so excited to jump in and read the rest of the book. I will definiely revist this book on audio.

I absolutely loved Divine Rivals, so I was excited to return to this world. I really enjoyed the depth of the mythology we got from the god's that we did not get in DR/RV.

Rebecca Ross writes stories so hauntingly beautiful. I could not put this book down. I was so engrossed in the conflict and heartbreak each character experiences.

Matilda's story is full of tragedy, loss, and feelings of not belonging. She is too skyward for the underlings and too underling for the skywards - she finds it difficult to trust anyone, as the immortals all appear to be ruthless and power hungry. She finds comfort in a mortal boy she meets through dreams. Victor is plagued by nightmares that are only calmed by the godling who saves him time after time.

Wow. Wow. Wow. My new favorite 2025 read.

This book was positively captivating. I don’t even know what I could say in a review that would possibly do it justice .

Melodic, magical, haunting, weaving, this book took me from the highest highs with the pure love between the God of War and the Queen he originally despised, the affection between the youngest Goddess who belonged nowhere and her salt-sworn ally right down to the lowest lows from the treachery, betrayal, cruelty, and unspoken loneliness that poured through the audio.

We are introduced to our FMC on the day of her birth, slowly we watch this incredibly curious yet deeply sheltered godchild grow, her magic stirring inside her until her first impossible mission, her first impossible success.

It’s hard to know if I loved this book more because of the blood-soaked brutality of the characters, because of the sheer strength and loyalty of the FMC, the quiet endurance of the mortal man she loves, the epic world-building, the adventures that brought me both tears and laughter.......

My advice: Take the day off from work, get your favorite snack, and read this. Then join me in sitting and staring.....

I listened to the audiobook, got the full version, and it was an immersive experience from start to finish. The story of Matilda, a messenger goddess caught between duty, secrets, and forbidden love with a mortal boy, felt both sweeping and intimate. Rebecca Ross’s lyrical writing shines, and the themes of love, sacrifice, and the cruelty of gods are beautifully explored. What truly elevated it was the narration; Hannah van der Westhuysen, George Weightman, and Rebecca Norfolk brought such depth and nuance to the characters. Their performances made the romance tender, the conflicts sharp, and the world vivid. A stunning prequel that ties into Divine Rivals while standing firmly on its own. Highly recommended for fans of romantic, mythic fantasy.

A lot more world building up front than her previous novels. Excited to finish the rest of the book, this teaser is just that, a tease!

Beautiful and devastating. Rebecca Ross wrote something really special with Wild Reverence. Matilda is such a complex and nuanced character and her relationship with Vincent is exquisite and heartbreaking. I loved everything about this book. We got an expanded and deepened understanding of the gods from the Divine Rivals world, romance, war, and an epilogue tie-in right into Divine Rivals.
I read the eARC and listened to an advance audio copy of the book in tandem. The audiobook features three narrators and they did an amazing job of bringing Matilda, Vincent, and all our favorites side characters (shout out to Bade!) to life and bringing another dimension to the story.

Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an ALC of this book!!

Im literally speechless 😭😭. I have NEVER been so mad at myself. I pulled out of my request for the e-book because while I was half asleep one night I had seen the audio available as "read now".. It seemed like an obvious answer.. until the morning when I actually had my glasses on and saw that this was only a sample. I need the rest of this book like I need air in my lungs and blood in my veins!

Love the narrator, she adds a texture to the novel that expands the world and vibe of the book immensely, a very very well done audio book.

From this section of the novel I think we are getting a truly fun and interesting expansion of the world in ways that I wasn't totally expecting but am totally enjoying. Overall I look forward to see where it ends up and am excited to finish the novel.

Five star aspects and two star aspects average out to give this book a 3.5 rating. Because of the book's pacing, I am rounding it down to 3 stars.

It is really hard for me to give a star rating for this book. I wasn't sure if I would like this book or not when I received the ARC of it. I loved Divine Rivals! Ruthless Vows was, at best, a two star read for me.

The good:
-World building: The three realms and the various gods was well done. I loved the incorporation of the number of stars determining their rank within the gods. I thought the notion of gods living in two distinct realms where the others cannot go was interesting. Particularly because there didn't really seem to be a reason why they were split except for the fact that they were born in their own realms. I think it would be really interesting for Ross to expand on the creation of the realms and the division of death and fate to separate realms. There is clearly more to that story as their mother is the gatekeeper to the mists. Overall, fantastic world building!

-Character development: There are a few characters that grew a lot as the story progressed. Yes, some of it was because the character aged. That's not really what I'm talking about though. Nathaniel became a very strong man and leader. Bade became a softer person while still fiercely loyal. I cried when Matilda gave him a nickname of sorts towards the end of the book (iykyk).

The bad:
-Ichor. If I ever read the work ichor again, it will be too soon. Do the gods bleed blood or ichor? The two fluids are used interchangeably, which defeats the purpose.

-The pacing: At some points, I felt like the book was flying by. At other points, I felt like the book would never end. There was a time that I verbally yelled "get on with it!" The first third or so of the book is Matilda as a child. I almost DNF during the first third because nothing happened. There were a ton of names and gods' powers thrown at you. I wondered if I should start taking notes. The actual battles with mortals flew by, but the build up to them felt like they took ages. One battle in particular thought that I felt dragged on too long was (SPOILER TO END OF PARAGRAPH) the battle between Warin, Bade, and Matilda felt unnecessarily long. We get it, he's invisible and they aren't sure when or where the attack will come.

-Superfluous adjectives: The endless descriptions of the air and smells were not needed. Parts of the book were redundant. In law school, I was taught not to write something with a paragraph that could be said with one sentence. The entire book would have been a lot easier to read and shorter if this notion was implemented. I do wonder if Ross is someone who cannot fully create mental images in her mind while reading, and if that is the reason why there are so many descriptions of the environment.

-Romance: this book is pitched as a romance. The romance takes up a very small portion of the book. The relationship between Matilda and Vincent was organic and believable when they were children. As adults, Vincent seemed to love her solely because they had a shared history. I am not sure what Matilda saw in Vincent other than her feeling truly wanted by someone. Any time their relationship seemed to progress, she was gone. When she returned, they would act like she was never away.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and the story. It took some time to get into the book, but I am glad I stuck it out. The book had many aspects I did not like. The story and the world building kept me engaged and made the book enjoyable. Will I read it again? The physical book, no. The audiobook, I likely will at some point.

I believe this book is a great addition to the Divine Rivals story. I loved hearing how the typewriters were created. That did seem like a throwaway though as it's briefly in the epilogue. If you loved the Divine Rivals duology, you will LOVE this book. If you were ambivalent to the duology, this book can be skipped. However, I think you can absolutely read this book as a standalone!!
