Review:
Getting this sneak peek of Wild Reverence on audio was such a treat! Rebecca Ross has such a lyrical, immersive writing style, and even from the small sample, I could feel myself being pulled right into the world she’s building. The narration was smooth, engaging, and really brought the characters and atmosphere to life.

While it was only a short preview, it left me eager for more! I’m already counting down the days until I can experience the full audiobook. If the rest continues with the same magic and tone, this will easily be one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

Disclosure: I received access to this sneak peek audiobook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review of a sneak peek of the audiobook's first 18 chapters - full review of the whole book to come.

"Wild Reverence" is both the newest addition to the "Letters of Enchantment" series and a standalone prequel to "Divine Rivals" and "Ruthless Vows".

In "Wild Reverence", readers are introduced to Matilda, a young messenger goddess, and Vincent, a mortal boy, their friendship maturing into a romance that challenges the entrenched traditions of the gods. Set in a world shaped by celestial magic and divine conflict, the novel promises a story that is both intimate in its emotional focus and expansive in its mythic scope as author Rebecca Ross once again expertly blends myth, magic, and romance. For fans of "Divine Rivals", this novel expands the universe with fresh lore and a deeper exploration of celestial magic, while still carrying the emotional resonance of the beloved duology.

I received a sampler of the excellent first 18 chapters of the audiobook featuring a multicast narration as well as an advanced reader's copy of the entire book, which made the first 18 chapters a truly immersive experience. The audiobook cast's performances are nuanced, giving each character a distinct presence, and the outstanding narration brings depth to the text, capturing both the intimacy of Matilda and Vincent’s bond and the grandeur of the gods’ worlds. Based on this preview, both the quality of the author's prose and paced storytelling as well as the strength of the audiobook performance suggest that "Wild Reverence" will be a luminous prequel that blends myth and romance into an unforgettable listening experience. A masterful balance of lyrical prose and captivating performance, it is sure to be an essential listen for fans of „Divine Rivals“, and I, for one, cannot wait to read the rest of the story.

Many thanks to Macmillan Audio for providing me with a sneak peek of the audiobook's first 18 chapters via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

"Wild Reverence" was first published on September 2, 2025, and is available now.

I need to continue this!!! I'm so invested, I really hope it continues this way to the end. I do think it feels a bit of an insta love right now, but other than that I need to know how it ends!

This was both written and read BREATHTAKINGLY. I was (of course) a bit wary of stepping back into the world of one of my *favorite* fantasy reads of last year, but reading (well, listening to) Wild Reverence truly felt like coming home. Rebecca Ross has never failed to remind me why she's one of my favorite authors and this story was no different. Matilda is such a strong, yet soft FMC who I instantly connected with and I am absolutely obsessed with the dynamic between her and Vincent (pls I love them). A goddess x mortal, slow-burn, childhood friends-to-strangers-to-lovers? I'm sat and CANNOT wait to finish their story when I inevitably purchase the full book soon.

The multicast narration really brought this story and its characters to life. As someone who rarely uses audiobooks because I tend to get distracted, this grabbed hold of me and didn't let go. If you're thinking of purchasing Wild Reverence and are considering the audio version, I highly recommend you do so. It will not disappoint.

& a huge thank you to Macmillan Audio and Rebecca Ross for allowing me to preview the first 18 chapters of the Wild Reverence Audiobook in exchange for my honest review. I am eternally grateful for this opportunity.

just finished the first 18 chapters of Wild Reverence and I’m already pulled deep into this story. Rebecca Ross has such a gift for world building—the setting feels lush, layered, and alive, and I can easily picture myself walking through its landscapes. The character development has been equally strong; the cast feels complex, flawed, and real in a way that makes me care about where their journeys will lead.

These opening chapters do a wonderful job of setting the stage while also giving enough tension and intrigue to keep the pages turning. By the end of chapter 18, I find myself completely invested—not just in the characters, but in the broader mysteries and conflicts beginning to unfold. I can’t wait to see how the story continues to weave all these threads together as the it progresses.

I’m normally not an audiobook gal, but I love love loved the narration on this one. I liked, but was not obsessed with, the Divine Rivals duology, but this audiobook really brought the world to life. The writing is even more beautiful than before. I cannot wait to hear the rest of the story. Thank you to NetGalley for a sneak peek in exchange for an honest review.

Returning to the Letters of Enchantment series feels like stepping into a dream. I wasn’t sure what to expect, this book carries a slightly different style and embraces darker themes but I was still utterly transfixed. What games do the gods play? When a new goddess appears, her origins hidden, what truths will surface?

Matilda was such an intriguing character to follow. Caught between two worlds, she was shaped by both and yet wholly herself. From the moment she arrived, she marked a shift...something stirring, something inevitable. Watching her grow into her own abilities and her role as a herald was both powerful and captivating. The gods’ powers were wielded in ways I did not anticipate, clever and sharp, and we are drawn into the same web of bargains, schemes, and secrets that ensnare Matilda.

In the midst of divine chaos stands Vincent, a mortal who feels like a pure light, steady and grounding. He becomes an anchor for Matilda, guiding her toward her true path. The vulnerability in their bond is tender and heartwarming, a counterpoint to the pettiness and cruelty of the gods. As the tapestry of the story unfolds, we ache for two hearts to find one another, even as destiny pulls them apart.

The lives of gods are tangled, prideful, often small in their grandeur. But Matilda shines apart, her compassion rippling through the immortal order, questioning what has always been and daring to change it. Perhaps change begins with a single wonder, a single act of care. And in the end, the love that binds them - tempered by distance, sacrifice, and battle - is a love beautifully won.

A special thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the advanced digital copy. An additional thank you to Macmillan audio for the Sneak Peak of the first 18 chapters. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Ahhh, what a delight to be back in this beautiful world Rebecca Ross created with the Letters of Enchantment duology. Wild Reverence is a prequel to Divine Rivals, taking us deeper into all three realms - human, Skyward, and Underling - telling the epic tale of the goddess Matilda, including her grand love story with a mortal lord called Vincent.

Buckle in for poetic writing, phenomenal storytelling, and what I think is her best book yet.

The dual audiobook narration was flawless. When I wasn’t listening to that, I was reading with the author’s perfectly curated playlist in the background (check it out here).

This was gem. You should read it.

Thank you to St Martin’s Press for the ARC and to Macmillan Audio for the sneak peak ALC 🙏🏻

Wild Reverence is like looking up at the stars only to be pulled into an entirely new dimension of gods, betrayals, and forbidden love. Ross’s poetic prose swept me away from the very first page.
Matilda and Vincent’s love story completely undid me—their bond is tender, patient, and selfless in a way that lingers long after finishing. I was equally moved by the Blade and his unwavering, fatherly devotion to Matilda, which added so much emotional depth to the story.
For fans of Divine Rivals, this book will not disappoint. And if you haven’t yet read the Letters of Enchantment series, I would actually recommend starting here with Wild Reverence.

𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 is a lush and mesmerizing prequel to the Letters of Enchantment series, where gods and mortals collide in a tale of fate, love, and sacrifice. Rebecca Ross’s writing is undeniably beautiful—poetic, immersive, and emotionally resonant. Matilda and Vincent, the star-crossed leads, are easy to root for, and their journey through divine realms and mortal trials is both tender and epic.

It’s a slow burn with heart, magic, and just enough drama to keep your tea warm! 🍵✨
And the audiobook? Pure enchantment. 🎧 The narration brings every divine whisper and mortal ache to life—like being read a myth by moonlight.

The narrators do a wonderful job on this audio! If it was not for the audiobook I would have dnf’d the book early on. The voices are done so well, the inflection and the production is perfect! I think most readers couldn’t benefit from utilizing the audio since the writing is so lyrical!

Love love love the audio!! Hannah Van Der Westhuysen brought Wild Reverence to life. Rebecca Ross is the queen of whimsical writing. Now I need my library to hurry up and give me the rest of the audio book to listen to.

Wild Reverence is beautifully written and beautifully performed in audio format! I was not sure from the beginning that I would enjoy listening/reading this book but boy was I wrong. This first 18 chapters are a perfect amount of sneak peak and leaves you hanging right when you get hooked. This was my first Rebecca Ross and it does not disappoint. Going into this book I did not previously read Divine Rivals. The beginning is set up perfectly that you do not need to know anything going in. So much detail and world building set this story up in a captivating way. I cannot wait to continue through an immersive read with audio and e-book on my kindle and see where Matilda’s story leads.

All in my feels as today is PUB DAY!! Honestly, this book blew me out of the water. And the audio?! DAMN. Such perfection. I just don’t have words. Both narrators hit it out of the park and I’M SO EXCITED TO LISTEN TO THE WHOLE THING NOW! I just finished my physical read of the whole book. Now I need an immediate reread via audio because it was that dang good.

Rebecca!!! We love it.

Thank you Maximillian audio for a sneak peak at the audio! Forever in your debt!

Thank you to NetGalley, Macmillan Audio, and Rebecca Ross for the opportunity to have a sneak peak at the first 18 chapters of Wild Reverence’s audiobook.

Matilda is a herald of the gods, the youngest goddess of the under-realm, daughter of the goddess of winter, fire, and cunning and an unknown-to-her god of the skyward realm. She is haunted by the decisions of gods and mortals. Her power is being a messenger between realms, but it comes with secrets and insights she vows to protect and keep hidden.

Vincent is a mortal lord who, as a young teen, dreams of Matilda without ever having met her. He has tender-hearted sorrow, and nightmares of drowning. During a difficult time, he writes a letter begging for help, but was met with silence.

Now, years later, the two who met briefly as children have moved on. Both hardened and reticent due to events that shaped them while growing up.

And to find out more, I can’t wait to finish the book when I get my hands on the rest of the chapters!

So far, it’s easy to see that this story is filled with beautiful mythology, warring gods, and unlikely allies. Rebecca Ross has a way with writing that pulls the reader in and weaves vivid imagery with emotionally drawn characters.

The narrators (dual, first person POV) embody the tone, depth, and range I would expect of Matilda and Vincent. They take Ross’s descriptive and sometimes lyrical prose and make it come to life.

I’m captivated by the thoughtful mythology and heartfelt longing for connection. I’m excited to see how Matilda will come to terms with her divine heritage and balance it with her growing vulnerability—and whether Vincent and Matilda can find their way back to each other.
