📖Now THIS IS GOOD STORYTELLING! This will absolutely go down as being one of the most memorable books I've read, I'm already calling it. And it will definitely be in my end of year favorites!

🥹You know that moment when a line in a book literally knocks the wind out of you? This book had one of those moments and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

⭐Basically if I were to try to describe this plot to you, you would laugh just like my friend did when I explained it to her, "so, basically it's about this small Amish town in Wisconsin and this woman gives birth to an 18lb baby that grows into a giant and is really good at baseball" 😂 Yes, that sounds wild, but JUST TRUST ME!

📖The story was told through multiple different perspectives of people in the small Wisconsin town of Lakota. I was so invested in these characters that I only put the audiobook down to sleep and finished it in a 24-hour period. The only thing I regret is not reading it with a bookclub because WOW I need to unpack some of this.

⭐At its core, I GUESS you could call it literary fiction with some multi-generational family drama and a touch of magic-ish.

🎧This was a full-cast audiobook and each of them poured their SOUL into the reading of this book. I know I sound dramatic, but I can still hear the emotions in their voices at certain moments. They didn't just read it, they FELT it, and you will too!

I loved LIFE, AND DEATH, AND GIANTS by Ron Rindo! It’s beautifully written with complex characters and a heartfelt story about faith, love, and belonging. The mix of Amish life and sports was so unique, and Gabriel’s journey really touched me. I listened on audio, and the narration by Christina Moore, Johnny Heller, Roger Wayne, and Will Damron was excellent, bringing even more depth and emotion to the book. Gabriel’s story is powerful and unforgettable, woven with themes of resilience, hope, and the bonds that shape us.

For fans of PEACE LIKE A RIVER and ORDINARY GRACE.

In a small Wisconsin town, Gabriel Fisher comes into the world at 18 pounds and proceeds to change the lives of everyone he meets at home and abroad. His relationships with a veterinarian, a bar owner and a coach highlight how this force of nature evolves.

At the center of the story is his loving grandmother who is both shunned and supported by her Amish community. Gabriel grows (and grows) within the farmland but carries with him the weight of his mother’s and brother’s sins. He cannot hide from tragedy or long buried secrets and with near perfect pacing, readers will discover who is hurt and who is healed.

With the tenderness of Emily Dickinson poetry and the violence of the gridiron, the coming of age narrative is told through the voices of those who were the most impacted by Gabriel. The full cast narration by Christina Moore, Johnny Heller, Roger Wayne and Will Damron was perfection and elevated this novel to best-of-the-summer status for me.

Combining the heart of Go As A River by Shelley Read and the ferocity of Life Among Giants by Bill Roorbach, I happily endorse this work with all the stars.
