DNF. I remember reading Annie Lord's UK Vogue column a few years ago and really liking her voice, but I found this a real slog. When the description says "microscopic," it really does mean an extraordinarily granular recounting of her last break-up, interspersed with facts that seem drawn from Wikipedia and unleavened by much humor. I struggled on until about halfway through, but I just couldn't get into it. Frankly, I may just have aged out of this kind of writing; it felt like the sort of book that I might have loved in my early/mid-twenties. Lord has a distinctive voice and there's nothing wrong with the prose as such; it simply really wasn't for me.

Breakups are a universal experience so it was really fascinating to read a memoir about someone’s breakup. I loved seeing how she navigated it from the first moments to long after, when the dust settled. It was also really unique how she wrote about her own flaws that contributed to the end of her relationship and it gives readers a lot to think about with their own lives and relationships. The way she described her emotions was great and made me feel those same things as I read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
