I read this book as an egalley over the summer and I was so excited to get access to the audiobook. I love the audiobook just as much as ebook. The main character Ning works at the nail salon, but in her previous life was a boxer. I loved the audiobook because I definitely felt more of Ning emotions. Her feelings of frustration, loneliness and sometimes joy.

Pick A Color is an insightful view of the immigrant experience told through the view of a nail shop owner as she manicures the nails and preforms other services for her clients. Ning is a retired boxer, but like all her employees, now goes by Susan. This is a sharply written novel about their experience in America. It was hopeful, heartbreaking and at times humorous. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time and one I’ll definitely be recommending.

This one is short, sharp, and hits harder than I expected. We follow Ning, a former boxer who now works at a nail salon where every worker wears the same name tag: Susan. On the surface, it feels ordinary, a single summer day in the salon. But underneath? It’s about identity, invisibility, and the quiet strength it takes to carry stories no one else sees.
