A simple fun meet cute cozy mystery. I loved the humor and literary surprises. Well written and very entertaining.

The story centers on Autumn, a young woman who has just been dumped in the worst way possible…and that’s only the beginning of the tumultuous few weeks she experiences as more and more bad news piles up.
Along the way, Autumn’s internal dialogue both drives the story forward and showcases Wenner’s excellent use of characterization to give readers a full picture of the ups and downs of a young woman navigating relationships, family, work, etc.
Loved how the novel is full of surprises, starting right away at the end of chapter one and carrying straight on through to key points in the story. Also, some sly humor sprinkled throughout. Truly a joy to read.

After Autumn's mum dies suddenly, she sets out to find out if she was murdered and who by. What does trainer Josh have to do with everything? A great read.

such a cute mashup type of read that i got endeared to almost straight away. it was a cosy mystery but with the romance elements to the genre added in their more than most too. it had all the giggly elements, the moments of heart, and a mystery to follow too. this mystery immediately pulled me in more too because it was to do with our main characters mother.
the story brings us to Autumn who life feels totally upended at the moment from all directions. there is her mother, her love life, and just life spinning her in a few directions.
i loved seeing how we first see Autumn and Bunny's relationship on the pages. im sure many can relate to it. then when she had to look closer into her mothers life you can see her being pulled in many directions and some aren't too pretty some are even risky. her losing her mum and then taking on what really happened to her felt real enough but never overwhelmed which you assume it might given this was her mum!
Autumn was such a human kind of character. she was trying her best but at the same time wasn't perfect. and i both wanted to hug and shake her. she jumped to wrong people, wrong conclusions but seemed to be learning a lot and going on her own journey too.
knowing her inner thoughts added an extra layer to the book which i really liked. it bought you closer to her and to the figuring out and insights into what she was up to. it felt like you were more involved.
the romance was a sweet one and i loved how it kept us on our toes too about where it might take us. and again we were on that journey with Autumn seeing as she was the narrator.
i realy enjoyed this book and if there are more i would defintely like to come to read more of them.

Jody Wenner delivers an entertaining genre mashup in "True Crime Lovers," blending romantic comedy with murder mystery in a way that will appeal to readers of both cozy mysteries and contemporary romance. When accountant Autumn White's eccentric mother Bunny dies under suspicious circumstances, Autumn's true crime obsession kicks into high gear as she investigates the handsome personal trainer who was working with her mother before her death.
Wenner captures the amateur sleuth mentality perfectly. Autumn's accountant skills translate naturally to following money trails, and her true crime knowledge provides both helpful insights and some amusing red herrings. The dynamic between Autumn's suspicions and her growing attraction to the "stupidly handsome" trainer creates genuine tension that drives the plot forward.
The mystery elements work well, with enough clues and misdirection to keep readers guessing without becoming overly complex. Wenner balances the serious subject matter of murder with humor effectively. The romantic subplot develops naturally alongside the investigation, and the chemistry between Autumn and her potential suspect/love interest adds an engaging layer of complexity.
The writing is breezy and accessible, with Autumn's voice feeling authentic throughout. Wenner clearly knows her target audience which are clearly readers who binge true crime podcasts while swooning over book boyfriends will find plenty to enjoy.
This is perfect for readers looking for a lighter take on murder mystery with romantic elements, or romance readers who want a bit more intrigue with their happily ever after.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
