The premise had me curious—a woman dies under sketchy circumstances, and her sister starts digging into the mess of online dating, manipulation, and secrets. It sounded like it could get dark and twisty in all the right ways.
But once I got into it, the thrill just didn’t stick. The pacing felt off, and while the emotional angle was there, the suspense didn’t really build. I kept waiting for that “I can’t put this down” moment, and it never quite showed up. Some plot turns were easy to spot, and the ending didn’t hit as hard as I hoped.
It’s not a bad read, just not one that kept me fully hooked. If you like slower-burn stories with a modern edge, this might land better for you. I wanted more tension, more surprises, and a little less predictability.

This was great!!! It takes real life tragedy and scams and bases this entire book around them! It's terrible what crazy things can happen in real life with tinder and other platforms!

Easy Prey
Terrifying twisted thriller inspired by true scams.
This book will take you on an unsettling ride of passion, devotion and deception! An unputdownable read! 5 stars!

Jules wants to find out who her sisters killer is. Whether it was suicide or not she wants to find out what happened to Brooke and will do anything to find it out.
Based on a true story, scammers, Tinder, and people who will take advantage of you.
This story line had me on the edge of my seat, awaiting what would happen next.
The only problem was the Twist wasn't Twisty enough and I wanted more at the end.
Other than that. A great read.

This is a story of greed and what people will do to others to get what they want. Her sister Juliet attempts to learn the truth about what actually happened to her sister and to make sure justice is served. But it’s karma that actually plays out to those who deserve it. This was a phenomenal story and one I highly recommend. There are parts that had me feeling nervous and on edge and parts that are really sad. Hearing the families' testimonies at the parole hearing got me feeling emotional and had me crying. But in the end, after learning the truth, justice prevails, and peace is finally restored to the family. I’m giving this book a well-deserved 5-star rating and hope to read more by A.B. Whelan very soon.

First, thank you Netgalley & Burbank Books Publishing for the ARC!
I was not sure what to think about the book. The blurb surely drew me in. And I do also like this cover way more than the one showing on Goodreads.
Anyway, it was my first book by the author and more dark and creepy than I did expect at first - another one of those stories you only want to read when the lights are still on and your doors are locked. It's also another great example to not always trust people on the internet. Some just know what to say or how to act towards you to make you feel special, but their motioves to reach out to you in first place are nothing but shady...
Very solid, twisty thriller. I am giving it 4,5 stars.

Easy Prey is a chilling psychological thriller that plunges readers into the murky world of online deception and emotional manipulation. The story begins with the tragic death of Brooke Taylor, a young blind woman whose apparent suicide leaves her sister Jules reeling with suspicion. Brooke had recently fallen for a mysterious man she met online—a whirlwind romance that ended not only in heartbreak but also in the disappearance of a significant sum of money. Jules is convinced her sister was targeted, and she’s determined to uncover the truth behind Brooke’s final days.
Driven by grief and a fierce sense of justice, Jules dives into the digital underworld her sister inhabited—dating apps, fake profiles, and the subtle art of emotional con artistry. Her only clues are a series of cassette tapes Brooke left behind, each one peeling back another layer of the man who seduced and betrayed her. As Jules listens, she begins to piece together a disturbing portrait of a predator who thrives on vulnerability and illusion. But the deeper she digs, the more she realizes that this isn’t just about Brooke—it’s about a pattern, a system, and a predator who may still be hunting.
The investigation quickly spirals into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Jules finds herself entangled in a web of lies where no one is who they seem, and every revelation leads to more questions. Her pursuit of justice becomes an obsession, and the line between hunter and prey begins to blur. With each step, Jules risks becoming the next target, especially as she uncovers how far this predator is willing to go to protect his secrets.

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this arc!
Wow what a great book! I really enjoyed the premise of this book. The characters are great. I even enjoyed the secondary characters. The writing style was great and this really was an easy read. It had meek hooked from page one. I don't always have a hard time putting books down but this one had me..lol. I highly recommend this book if you are in a reading slump. This was a first for me by this author but will not be my last!

This book drew me in from the prologue. Read the entire book in one sitting. It will grab you attention and not let you go.
Two themes throughout the book. 1. People will do anything for their family. 2. Be careful who you trust.
With the final tragic twists this is an ending I never saw coming.
