This was a strong sequel in the Marin Sinclair series, it had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from the previous entry. The characters were so well written and enjoyed going on this journey with them. I enjoyed the use of the Navajo Nation and the mystery of this book. Jan D. Payne has a strong writing style and hope I get to read more from this world and from Jan D. Payne.

In the heart of the Navajo Nation, Marin Sinclair stumbles into a whirlwind of danger when she discovers that teenager Garret Washburn is caught in a deadly conspiracy. What starts as a concern for a young boy quickly escalates into a tangled mess involving bootlegged alcohol, wolf-witches, political scheming, and even a mysterious bomber. Marin knows she’s out of her depth, so she turns to Navajo Nation Police Sergeant Justin Blue Eyes and Federal Agent Cullen MacPherson for backup—because when ancient magic and modern crime collide, you need more than just instincts to survive.
As the trio digs deeper, they uncover layers of corruption and supernatural interference that threaten not just Garret, but the entire community. The stakes rise with every twist, and the line between myth and reality blurs. Changing Woman, a sacred figure in Diné mythology, looms large over the story—not just as a symbol of balance and renewal, but as a spiritual force whose legacy seems to echo through the chaos Marin is trying to unravel.
With cultural identity, ancestral power, and political intrigue all woven into the plot, the story becomes more than just a mystery—it’s a reckoning. Marin must navigate not only the external threats but also her own understanding of heritage and justice. It’s a gripping ride through sacred landscapes and shadowy motives, where every choice could tip the balance between harmony and destruction.
