The Cost of Magic is a book that follows Torvia as she tries to prove herself to become part of the Royal Guard. Torvia has powerful magic that she is eager to put to good use, paired with her training, to protect her prince. However, he refuses to have her out in the field and the princess wants her in court. As she tries to prove her worthiness, she has to learn to trust the right people and protect her prince.

I loved reading this book and got through it so quickly. I loved Torvia as a character and her eagerness to impress the people around her and achieve her dream. She became a comfort character for me as she makes mistakes and puts all her efforts in trying to do better. I feel this aspect to her makes the book feel more real and gripping. I did feel that the pacing towards the end of this book was slightly rushed. There were times I got lost between places and times. However, it did not stop me loving this book and I am eagerly waiting for the next one!
