I love Anne Frasier. Alway count on her to deliver a great thriller. Pretty Dead was a bit slow for me.
Wasn’t until about 40% into the book that I felt it started really picking up the pace.

Wasn’t a favorite of mine but you bet I will read the next story and the one after that and so on.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an ebook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Pretty Dead is the 3rd book in the series about Elise Sandburg. So as a reader I feel like I know Elise pretty well. This book takes us into a new case to solve, this time around a serial killer. As you the story progresses the story gets more personal for Elise and she soon not only has to find the killer but she has her own demons to deal with, including her father and her partner who she has feelings for.
Another fast and furious read that moves along and keeps the reader glued to the page. A great series and #3 did not disappoint!

This is the first book in the Elise Sandburg series. Frasier takes the reader into the heart of Savannah and dark side of the city. Growing up Elise knows the old ways of VooDoo and all the spells that go with it. Elise is a detective and strange and dangerous things are going on in her city. As she chases the killer through the dark streets of Savannah Elise must be relentless and be ready to face the ghosts from her past.

If you are looking for a good thriller with terrific writing then this is the author for you. Frasier has several two series and several stand alone novels that are all just great!

Book 3 of the Elise Sandburg Series.

I will start by saying that I did really enjoy the first book in this series (which is why I am still reading them) but felt slightly less excited about the second. So, here I am reading the third one in hopes it got back to the quality of the first one...

...but I don't think it did.

But, first, let's start with the positives: Elise Sandburg is a flawed, damaged character - but is tough as nails with a "whatever it takes" attitude. She is a character that I can enjoy, rather than some of the "look at me, look at me" detectives we get in fiction from time to time. Her partnership with David Gould (who is an interesting guy - but not as interesting as Elise) is great. I enjoy both the banter between them, but their professional respect for each other.
The other minor characters played brilliant roles too - the demanding Mayor, the FBI profiler guy, Elise's father...everyone plays their part well. Some very well-conceived backstories and we have depth of character that adds some real "life" to this book. Characters are important to me when I read - especially crime fiction - and this book did very well on that score.

The downside for me was simple - there was no mystery. Blind Freddy could see early on where this was going so, for me, the story was unable to build any tension. And that was a major disappointment for me.

That's it. Great characters but lacking in mystery for me.

This was a really good addition to the series. I love the two main characters, detectives Elise Sandburg and her partner, David Gould. The storyline kept my interest and I enjoyed every second of reading this one.

Anne Frasier has done it again! Kept me up late at night and wondering about a book throughout the day. As a Frasier fan who has pretty much read all of her books, I am very impressed with Pretty Dead. Back into the world of Elise and David, the story becomes a bit more complex -yet more is revealed about their personal lives. Jackson Sweet, Elise's father makes more of an appearance and we delve more into the secrets of his mysterious life. David, still battling his demons from the past, is someone we get to learn a little more about as well. Chasing a serial killer is what they do best and I thought this book was very well written but was a little easy for me to pick out who the killer was fairly early. The climax of the story wasn't as exciting or suspenseful as I'm used to the series and being-I felt the killer kind of "gave up" and was caught to easily. However, I loved the book and the opportunity to dive back into the world of Elise Sandburg. I am really hoping the series continues because Elise & David make the best team.
