I have not read any of the previous books in the series, and that is where I think it went wrong. I couldn't relate to the story or the characters, and no matter how brilliant Katee Robert's writing is, it couldn't connect me to the story, which is what I need to relate to the story.

I mistakenly read this without reading the two before it, but i don't think it messed anything up. There might have been a few instances where i didn't get something, or know a character when flippantly introduced, but I still was able to enjoy the read despite reading out of order. This was a very interesting, and angsty take on the bodyguard falls in love with his charge story. I really enjoyed it, and it made for a fast read.
