Thank you to Zest Books for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
There were parts of this book that I did really like, such as the discussions of institutionalization of bipolar people throughout history. This is an important discussion to be having, especially in a book geared towards young adults. I also really liked a quote on p. 45 that reads "'I am not my mind' - a very useful mantra. Except, Um. of course I am". There were lots of thought-provoking moments throughout.
I felt that overall, though, the book lacked some cohesion and read more as a book of poetry than as a memoir in verse. I feel that I gained a deeper understanding of what life with bipolar looks like, but I don't feel that I know the author any better, which is why it misses the mark as a memoir in my opinion. Unfortunately, I likely won't be purchasing this title for my library's YA collection because it feels like something was missing for me.
