I'm always irritated by the assertion that this is "everything you need to know"--but this is a good basic primer of the realities of geography. Despite air power and globalized transport routes, there are absolutely geographic features that form logical borders, provide defense and offer natural resources, and those which stifle development, offer invasion routes and block expansion. Marshall's chapters on Russia is particularly useful about Ukraine and about the shared but impassible border between China and India.
