Action, twists, happily married but living in different homes, a missing woman and a dead woman and LOTS of secrets make this a great story with an ending I didn’t see coming. The story moves along at a fairly good pace although it bogged down a little in the middle. Most of the characters are likable and some not so much. When all the secrets came out I was as surprised as many of the characters. I very much enjoyed this book and the storyline and I recommend it if you like mysteries and thrillers. I received a copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I have been a big K. L. Slater fan for a long time, and she has done it again with another tense and addictive domestic thriller. My Husband Next Door hooked me from the very first chapter with its intriguing premise: a marriage fractured by secrets, lies, and the unsettling presence of a husband who lives two doors down. The story slowly peels back layers of mistrust and betrayal, keeping you constantly second-guessing who to believe and what’s really going on behind closed doors.

Slater’s strength lies in her ability to create flawed yet believable (and slightly unhinged) characters whose choices feel both shocking and all too real. The pacing is sharp, with plenty of twists and turns that keep you racing through the pages, and just when you think you have the truth figured out, another reveal changes everything.

If you enjoy psychological thrillers packed with tension, manipulative relationships, and explosive secrets, My Husband Next Door is a must-read. It’s clever, unsettling, and guaranteed to keep you gripped right to the final page.

Woke to a great surprise in my mailbox! Thank you, Bookouture, for sending me this ARC. I've read many K.L. Slater books, and they consistently hit the mark for me.

You bet I started this one right away. This one was kind of a wild ride and had some fun twists. A little predictable to me, but that didn’t take away from any of the enjoyment. The mystery aspect kept me completely hooked. I found all the characters to be interesting, and I loved the layers/depth of the storyline. Highly recommend trying this author out if you haven't yet. All her books are fun, quick, and twisty reads.

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of My Husband Next Door by K.L. Slater due to be published October 28, 2025.

Matt and Sylvie are an ordinary couple except they live two doors away from each other. When new neighbor, Brenda, moves across the street they wonder – is she caring, a busybody, or has she stepped over the line? What is Matt hiding, and is Brenda involved?

There is a reason this is my sixth book by K.L. Slater – I love her books! This one was no exception – I read it in two days – I couldn’t read it fast enough to see what was going to happen. Kidnapping, murder, secrets – this book had them all and kept me enthralled and guessing until the very end!

While there weren’t many twists along the way (well no shocking ones) I was still hooked and pretty much devoured this book in one sitting!

KL Slater never disappoints! I always enjoy reading her books so when her newest novel, My Husband Next Door landed in my inbox, I was chuffed!

Sylvie and her husband Matt are married but live in their own houses on the same street. Their living arrangements work for them even though it has made them famous! When Brenda moves into the street, she is quick to insert herself into their lives, even assisting when Jess, Sylvie's daughter, gives birth and needs help with the baby. Sylvie knows she will need to put her foot down once Brenda gets more and more involved with their lives. Will she be able to do it?

I cannot say any more than this but be sure to pick up a copy and read what happens! It would be my nightmare having someone get so involved in my daily life and I do feel Sylvie let Brenda get away with a lot. This was an addictive story which I lapped up as I flew through the pages. It was a little predictable but didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book.

Thanks for the ARC NetGalley and Bookouture! Here's my honest review- The book started out super strong. I enjoyed the pace, the characters, and it seemed like most characters had a strong background, but they seemed a bit flimsy. I normally love KL Slater books, but this one fell a little flat. I definitely didn't expect the ending, but I didn't expect to feel a bit let down by the ending, either.

I loved this one and raced through it! It begins with college student, Ellie being kidnapped, and then suddenly we're in the midst of a Book Club that meets regularly. Sylvie is the "leader" and her daughter, Jess has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Brenda is a woman new to the neighborhood who has just moved in across the street and becomes friendly with Sylvie, but often overstays her welcome and tries to organize Sylvie's belongings so Sylvie vows to keep to herself more. And then things REALLY get out of hand! Read on my friends and be prepared for anything; this book is a gem!

Taut and gripping mystery - the lines between good and bad blurred and twists at every corner. You might guess a bit, but not all of it! Addictive from the first page to the last.

K.L. Slater has done it again—this is a twisty, addictive psychological thriller that kept me turning pages late into the night. The setup is fascinating: a married couple who live in separate houses, a quirky arrangement that seems “perfect” until cracks begin to show. I loved how Slater used this unusual dynamic to build tension and make me constantly question what Matt was hiding.

The atmosphere was brilliantly claustrophobic. With two women missing and the sense of danger pressing in, I felt myself pulled into the narrator’s unease. The addition of Brenda, the seemingly helpful neighbor, was a clever touch. On the surface, she’s friendly and supportive, but the more she “observes” and comments, the more unsettling she becomes. Is she really concerned—or is she pushing the narrator toward suspicions for her own reasons? That question kept me hooked.

As with all of Slater’s novels, the pacing is sharp and the twists are expertly layered. Just when I thought I had it figured out, another revelation sent me spinning in a new direction. The “shocking secret” the protagonist uncovers had me flipping back to earlier chapters, realizing how carefully the clues had been planted.

I did find some of the side characters less developed compared to the leads, but overall this was a fast, engaging read with plenty of the dark, twisty turns I’ve come to expect from this author.

A chilling story about trust, secrets, and the danger of believing that “perfect” arrangements can last. Highly recommended for fans of Lisa Jewell, Freida McFadden, and anyone who loves domestic thrillers that keep you second-guessing until the final page.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and K.L. Slater for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
