Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of Hollow by Karina Halle. This was a fun, witchy reimagining of Sleepy Hollow set at the creepy Sleepy Hollow Institute. It follows Kat Van Tassel, who’s dealing with family expectations, a mysteriously returned fiancé (Brom Bones), and the dark, magnetic professor Ichabod Crane, all while the legend of the Headless Horseman hangs over everything.
I really enjoyed the spooky atmosphere and the tension between the characters kept me hooked. That said, there was more spice than I personally like, and some of those scenes felt like they were there just for the heat instead of moving the story along. The ending also wrapped up a little too fast, so a few of the big confrontations didn’t have the impact I wanted.
Overall, this was a creative and entertaining read, and I think readers who like dark academia vibes, witchy magic, and a good amount of romance will really enjoy it, especially if you don’t mind a bit of extra spice.
