This graphic novel adaptation of the classic illustrated by Purmensky makes great use of the black and white, and occasionally red for its visual storytelling. I love how the sparing use of red makes them pop even more.

The clear text placement and the expressive face and poses make this graphic novel a good introduction to Animal Farm for younger audiences.

One gripe that I do have is that some alterations to the commandments do not appear in the latter pages, like "without cause" in #6 appearing in page 70 but not appearing in page 84. While its omission highlights change in #5, I think it would've added to the atmosphere of how much the commandments have been stealthily amended if the revision for #6 was shown even just a bit (since it's cropped in the corner, anyway).

This is honestly the best adaptation of Animal Farm I’ve come across. It manages to capture the essence of the story without losing any of its weight or sharpness. The illustrations are done to perfection, gritty, raw, and full of detail, with splashes of red appearing thoughtfully to capture impact. They give the book an atmosphere that feels both familiar and freshly unsettling.

What impressed me most is how the characters come alive through the art. Their personalities, their frustrations, their emotions. you can feel them in every expression and movement. Even if you already know the story inside out, seeing it translated this way adds another layer of impact.

I’d definitely recommend this as a companion to the original novel, especially for readers who want to revisit Animal Farm from a new angle. But it also stands strong on its own. You don’t need to know the book beforehand to feel the tension, the unease, and the message running through these pages.

This is a well-done graphic version of an important classic. It’s still a sobering story, and very relevant in today’s times. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book gave me chills in a way no other book ever has. The art made it even creepier the way it captures the hierarchy- Oh My God! The fact that this book was written in between 1943-1944 and published 1945 and yet it still described exactly how the government is controlling us. This just shows that nothing has changed even after decades, the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. And now after the recent election of you know who this is just crazy on point. 10/10 totally recommend reading this

“All animals are equal, But some animals are more equal than others”…. This is a story about animals who decide to revolt and run the farm themselves. They create rules and guidelines to keep things fair. When the commander pig passes away, three pigs take charge. Suddenly the rules start to change and all animals are not as equal as they once were.

This was such a phenomenal and gripping story, poking fun at socialist ideals.

Thanks to Netgallery for this ARC.

This was a great graphic novel adaptation of a classic piece of literature. I loved the art, I've heard of animal farm but never had a chance to read but was also wary because of my learning disabilities but this was such a good way of digesting it.

As a middle and high school educator, I am always on the lookout for graphic novels that will help enhance the reading of the actual book while also giving students the opportunity to compare and contrast the craft of the story in the different mediums. This adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm is definitely one I could see myself recommending to teachers to help supplement their reading of the novel or incorporating into a genre study on graphic novels. The art enhances the story, and the story is easy to follow while staying true to Orwell's original novel.

A retelling of the powerful, cautionary tale by George Orwell. This message has been carried out throughout the years and is just as important as ever. This graphic novel does an amazing job of retelling this story. The illustrations are dark and beautiful. I loved the hints of red throughout the book. It is something that you can read in one sitting but will stay with you for ages.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

I remember reading Animal Farm back in the day, and being at awe with the story and how something written SO many years ago could hold so much truth and power to our "modern" reality. Reading this graphic novel I still feel the same way. It was powerfully drawn and SO relevant still to our present. I think the illustration and the way it was adapted doesn't do the original story any disservice. It was wonderfully made.
