There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

Wow, these stories sure pack a punch! Cleverly weaving together magical realism and vivid descriptions into stories that are sure to stay with readers for a long time, the author brings to life one of history's darkest periods in a way that I had personally never seen before. I would often find myself putting the book down (well, my Kindle) to reflect on some scenes, before immediately diving back into the stories to see what would come next. Definitely one of the most gripping books I've read in a long time.
