Jane Eyre like you've never seen her! She is a serial killer? Very different from what I expected but a good read.

When a book has the line "Reader, I murdered him," it sets up high expectations! And Faye reaches some of them, a gothic serial killer in the Jane Eyre persuasion, come on now! But the story drags once Jane becomes a governess, which is a bit of a shame. Still, very clever, and very bloody!

The pitch for the book is "Jane Eyre meets Dexter", but it's so much more than that. Lyndsay Faye puts her signature twist on the classic story, giving it new life.

Jane Steele is written directly to the reader. It is a story told by Jane Steele for the readers. This is the story that is told of how Jane Steele perceived her life. It is not an easy story. Her life was not easy. There is the loss of loved ones, murder, being homeless, and so much more. The story moved at a good pace with never a boring minute.

There are many recollections of Jane Eyre. I have never read Jane Eyre and was concerned that I would miss some of this story. I did not! I followed the story easily. Some have said that it would be helpful to read Jane Eyre first, but I am fine with not having read it first.

You may wonder why I choose to read Jane Steele if I was not a fan of Jane Eyre. I have to say it is the cover. It is unique and beautiful. It drew me into the story before I even opened the book. They say not to judge a book by its cover but in this case it had to be the reason for me starting the book.

This was an engaging read! I had it a long time on my "To-Read" list before finally delving in, and I wish I hadn't waited so long to get into it. Jane is a character to remember. The story weaves through years and seasons, with fun twists and turns. I'd highly recommend it!

Thank you Netgalley for a review copy of this book
I really wanted to like this book - I liked the premise of the storyline but, after 12 chapters I really hadn't connected with the character or gotten to the point of the storyline. It was quite boring and wordy. Unfortunately, I didn't continue.

I've never read JANE EYRE, but this feels like a very... interesting introduction. I mean, she's a SERIAL killer. How wickedly cool is that?! I loved it! JANE STEELE was extremely entertaining throughout, buuuut.... There were a few issues!
I wish there was some trigger warnings. As much as I did enjoy this, JANE STEELE was really, reaalllly dark. There's a lot of triggering stuff mentioned in the book and I was a bit shocked by it.
This was a complicated novel. I don't justify what Jane did, and never would, but reading from her point of view, it almost makes it seem like... like she is justified.
Anyway, 3.5 stars! The second half was slower than I liked, and ended up being a disappointing, but I still enjoyed the book.

As Jane Eyre week continues, this was the first book I thought of when I knew I was going to do this week. I went to the signing for this book a bit ago and it has sat on my shelf because even though the author said I could read without reading Jane Eyre I knew I would want to do Jane Eyre first before reading this one.

Overall this book was a great adaptation of the book and I loved how it was formatted exactly like Jane Eyre. With three volumes that divide up the story, it was fun to read a story in that format again. I absolutely loved that Jane Steele clearly referenced and referred to the original work Jane Eyre, she was obvious in the way that she spoke about Jane Eyre and I liked the transparency.

The part of the book that dragged away for me was the middle volume. I just couldn't get into the Sikh drama and the significance behind it. I couldn't get connected with that part of the plot and was ready to get back to Jane killing people (that seems weird to say, but sort of true!)

I liked this adaptation. I loved giving Jane the "ability" to kill those who wrong her that was fun to read! I would say I think you should read or have read Jane Eyre first because there are so many references and extra things you will pick up if you have read that previous to this one.

This was an amazing re-telling of Jane Eyre but our beloved heroine is now a serial killer. This book is superbly written and i highly recommend it.

I've never read Jane Eyre but she is mentioned in parallel to the main character Jane in this book. I found this very interesting and really enjoyed the insights into Bronte. I found that the main character was complex and interesting. I love in the end how her love tells her that all her murders were justified, as they were so that she had the guilt lifted, and she helped her love with his guilt too. I could tell that Clark was in love with Jane and thought Jane might be in love with her, but nope.

I didn't really get into this, so I won't review. Thanks.

I found this book very "genre-y," but that didn't make it less enjoyable.

I was very excited for Jane Steele. I had been wanting to read Jane Eyre for some years and when my request for Jane Steele was approved (on Netgalley) I immediately found my copy of Jane Eye and started reading. It is a beautiful work which unfortunately disappointed me, but I was still excited about Jane Steele. I gave it a shot and I read about 25-30% of the book before I gave up. I was not a fan of the storyline or the main character, I had really nothing to keep me reading so I didn't.
I wish I'd liked it at least, because the tag line 'reader I murdered him' is so intriguing - but the story is not.
