Basically, the title says it all - it is a study of abortion through the Middle Ages - its concepts, laws and the role of the Church with the focus on Rome, Visigoth Spain, Merovingian Gaul, and the Carolingian Empire. We all tend to this of abortion as a modern concept, but whether through poisons or potions or external agency, abortion has been around for a long time.

For me personally, I was fascinated by the chapter in Lothair II and Theutberga.
