Keep On Loving You by Christie Ridgway
I've come to realize that second chance love stories are not really my cup of tea like I thought they were. There's usually a bit of an enemies to lovers component to them, and I don't enjoy that trope either. I don't like reading about people who had a falling out or a painful encounter that made them not like each other, but then they find their way back and fall into love. That's what happens in Keep On Loving You. Mac is harboring a lot of hurt and anger towards Zan, the man who walked away from her 10 years ago without a thought. Now they've run into each other again, and there's some animosity and definitely a loss of trust. I really liked Mac, but Zan fell flat for me. I still don't really know who he is, and I never connected with him because he seemed quite emotionless. Readers are told a lot about him and what he's feeling, but he never did anything to back it up. I just didn't see it, and I didn't see why Mac felt for him the way she did. He sucks are communicating, and keeps a tight lid on everything. I did love the Walker family, and I think they are what saved the book for me. The ending left much to be desired. Zan's lightbulb moment was too easy, and I feel like Mac deserved some better who valued her more and worked harder for her love.
