The title is a bit misleading, as this is not really a book about Pocahontas and Sacagawea, although their lives and legacies are indeed explored in some depth, but this meticulously researched and accessibly written book is much more about Native American history in general from the first colonisers to the final vanquishing of the native tribes. Only a small part of the book features Pocahontas and Sacagawea, the rest being about white encroachment into native lands and the expansion of settlement ever westwards. It’s an interesting, well-written and informative exploration of this period in American history, an excellent introduction to the subject, and a useful stepping-stone to more in-depth reading.
