This is the second book in the series. While you don't have to read the Study series if you don't want to, I think it would help those just getting into Maria's books. Just be prepare to be confused at points.
Any way
Yelena's and Valek's love is becoming even stronger while Valek's relationships with others isnt going well. Even though the group doesn't have the numbers in this war, they are so strong and will keep trying to stop this war.
I absolutely loved these characters, the magic and everything I've already come to know and love about Maria's work. It's continuing off from other series, but its done so well its almost like you can't tell its intertwined rather than one. Its just that dang good!

Better late than never? I finally reread through the original trilogy to finish this series up and I just adored every moment. I loved having the additional POVs in this trilogy and the ending just made me so happy. I can't wait to read the new Valek book and I'm hoping for more books in this world in the future!

– Yelena and Valek are once again in big trouble. It starts when Yelena finds out she is pregnant. Valek is thrilled but trouble with the Commander soon leads to both being in very great danger. While this is a great story on its own it is also a lead in to the next book in the series. Nothing is solved but a lot is explained as both Elena and Valek are in non-stop danger. A surprise was finding out more about Valek’s past and what happens when he finally returns to his childhood home. This can be read as a stand-alone but is much better if read as part of the series.

I have loved all the books in the Poison Study series and Night Study was no different. The world that Snyder created is magical, romantic and adventurous. I love her writing and this book was so much fun to read. It brought back all the feels of the original series but added its own unique spin to the world.

Night Study by Maria V. Snyder is the penultimate book in the Study series and it lays the groundwork for the last book. Overall, I thought this was a decent read. I liked being back in the familiar world of Ixia and Sitia. In this book tension truly is building. We have one nation that embraces magic and one that does not. Plus, Yelena’s current loss of her magic ability. It all adds up to create a story that will have you wanting the final book in the series.
I feel like none of the fantasy books I read have a pregnant woman for lead character, so kudos to Snyder for taking that on. I am at the time in my life where I don’t mind that in a story and can somewhat relate. If you can’t well, there are other viewpoints to from – Valek, Leif, and Janco. Yelena is the only woman who gets a POV though. The story moves along at an enjoyable pace though.
I will say that this book is absolutely all lead up for the last book and that’s fine. Onora is a newer character that I liked getting to know better – as she is vying for Valek’s job. Plus, we get more Ari and Janco who are the true treats of the story. Also, I found myself very invested in Yelena’s pregnancy — FYI she does not have the baby in this book. I’d recommend this if you’re already four books into the Study series – might has well go all the way and finish.

Contining right where the previous book left off, this next chapter in the saga keeps the reader entertained and wanting more. Where some of Snyder's second books in her trilogies can fall short, this one kept you wanting to read on.

I am ashamed at how long it took me to get to this book from my Netgalley pile and that it took me so long to finish it. I really loved the Poison Study series and I liked the first in the Soulfinders series as well, and what I enjoy about them is how much world building there continues to be through the series even once you are well into it. The only problem though, is the same thing, there is so much detail about the people, places, thought processes that it can feel like you are trudging through. So if you aren't in the mood to read or for this type of story it can be a rough one. All that being said, I did enjoy this book quite a bit. I love Yelena and Valek, they are adorable together and the twists throughout the book involving them were wonderful. The other characters, while they lend to the overall story just don't always hit the mark, but the story overall was great. I love the politics in these books and the magic and the love these characters have for each other. It is a band of misfits and they come together to do great things.
I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one. My recommendation though, if you find a lot of detail too much or you are looking for a light read, this isn't it. There is a lot to take in all the time and not many parts you can just skim through (if that is how you read). There are little hints and secrets everywhere and they come together beautifully when the books wrap up.

I'm getting a little tired of this series. Too many new characters and plotlines going on.

I liked Night Study more than Shadow Study. We get more pieces to the puzzle regarding the Commander's strange behavior. Yelena still remains powerless, but there are strange things happening with Valek. As Yelena and company try to advance on Owen Moon's shoes, the magician always seems to be a few steps ahead of them. The plot keeps at a good pace with lots of action and humor. There is also a nice touch of romance without overshadowing the important plot-lines. There were a few times I had to roll my eyes in the implausibility of Yelena's action in particular to her new state. Again the narrative is split into multiple points of views jumping from Yelena, Valek, Janco, and Leif. I didn't mind the multiple points of views as much in this book considering the characters were further apart, but in scenes in which they all stayed together it made little sense to switch point of views. I also really enjoyed seeing and reading about Valek's family. A big battle is brewing at the end of the book and I'm really curious to see how Snyder wraps up her series.

Perfection! That is all! I know I probably sound like a broken record when it comes to Maria and her books. But I just can't say enough good things! You would think there would be one meh book out of the 5 Study books but there isn't! They are all truly amazing and Night Study was no different! I can't even begin to talk about all the awesomeness that happens in this book because it would be way too spoilery! I loved that we got POV's from Yelena and Valek and Janco again (yay!) but we also got a new POV which was Leif I really loved reading his side of the story although it made me hungry lol
The story is so intense and so is the romance and magic!!! I am dying to get my hands on Dawn Study!
Valek is just *swoons* Lets just say Valek has ruined all men for me. Nobody could even come close to him.
