I absolutely loved this book even though it's been on my to-be-read list for years now! I so should have read it sooner! This one picks up pretty much where book 1, The Veil, finished, so I would highly recommend you read that book first to get the background info for this series.

Claire Connelly is a Sensitive in a world where magic is illegal following the war in the first book. She does everything she can to avoid being caught out and only a few trusted close friends know what she really is. In a magical apocalyptic New Orleans, she's coping as best she can, running her father's store providing what goods she can get to the other residents who have chosen to stay behind in their city. Her relationship with bounty hunter Liam Quinn is tense - he knows what she is, but can't turn her in and the sexual tension between them both is close to explosion!

When a new enemy arrives, determined to eradicate magic and its supporters once and for all, Claire, Liam, Gunnar, Tadji and their other friends and allies must do all they can to stop them, even if it means Claire does what she least wants to do - reveal herself to those who will capture and imprison her.

I loved Claire and Liam - they were a great couple, yet not a couple for most of the book. The side characters were great as well and I felt really added to that sense of community and family that was very much needed in a world like this.

The ending, whilst happy in one way, was just devastating for Claire and I really did feel her tears at the very end. I completely agreed with her decision to go where she did, even though it's killing her to do so!

I can't wait to read the next book in this series now and find out what happens to these characters now everything has changed!

The Sight is the second installment in Chloe Neill's urban fantasy series titled: Devil's Isle. This is a series that really needs to be read in order since this book picks up shortly after the first one left off with all of the familiar characters being a part of the story. I do like the fact that Neill doesn't waste any time catching readers up on what happened in the first book. The book finds readers in the middle of a war that is quickly becoming more dangerous. Claire Connolly find herself smack dab in the middle of everything. Claire finds herself joining forces with Liam Quinn, a bounty hunter who knows her big secret, as they try to save New Orleans.
This book is a little heavy on the politics that are involved in the war. For readers wanting steady action and constant fun banter between characters, this book may move a little too slow.

After reading and enjoying The Veil, book one in the Devil's Isle series, I was eager to dig into book two. True to Chloe Neill's style The Sight features fabulous world building, well developed characters, and an interesting storyline. There is further development in the Claire/Liam relationship (both good and bad), twists and turns and an ending that had me thinking OMG and wondering what would happen next. If you haven't checked out the Devil's Isle series I recommend you give it a try.

After the Veil opened, you were either a Sensitive (who is genetically receptive to the magic beyond the Veil) or you are NOT. Which means you are not able to do magic. As with all new scary things, Sensitives are feared and a government branch is formed to deal with them, mostly by imprisonment on Devil's Isle. So some sensitives hide themselves -- because too much magic can turn a human into a wraith that goes mad.

But there's a new threat to the Veil, and a cult forming... And only a secret network of humans. Sensitives, and those from beyond the Veil can work together to save a semblance of hope of for the future.

Great read, would read as many Devil's Isle stories as author would write!
