Interesting read, I've loved reading this book.
Not an easy topic but told with remarkable grace and empathy.

For many people the middle east is a simple story, Daesh or ISIS moved in committed atrocities and war crimes, tried to create an Islamic medieval country, failed and it was destroyed by an alliance with the west. The reality is both more nuanced and also much deeper than that, and it involves the lives of all the people and cultures that live there.
In this work Mindy Bentz explores the human cost of the ongoing devastating situation there, setting the scene by looking at the rich, diverse, ethnic and cultural history of the area going right through from 600 AD to 2015 AD.
The stories of Christians, living their lives in the countries of their forefathers, and the abuse, torture, rape and murder that they have faced, make this book a tough read. Even though the information rich delivery and terrible, difficult subject could have made it impossible to read, Mindy writes in a balanced, light and informative manner,
even drawing heartfelt good hopeful stories from amongst the tragedies..
A must read.
