Unfortunately I wasn't able to go through with this. I might come back someday.

I would like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book has been sitting in my (metaphorical) Netgalley pile for the longest, in part because I learned over time to be choosier about what books I requested and definitely never to take anything self-published. But I'm trying to clear out the backlog so I thought I'd finally give it a try and maybe it would be better than I thought. Sadly, it was worse. The basic plot - driven woman who has had great success in the financial industry begins to question everything after the death of her aunt and the Bernie Madoff scandal - is ok but nothing special, but the execution is severely lacking - the characters are beyond cartoonish and unbelievable, the pacing is strange, and the writing is truly terrible. This book has barely any reviews on Goodreads but the fact that they are all pretty positive is truly confounding - I can only imagine that they all come either from friends of the author or people who feel obliged to give at least a mediocre if not good review to any book they got for free. I have no such compunctions. I appreciate the free copy, but this book was truly terrible.

This book was a very well written and fleshed out book, the character development was great, the plot was on point. I read this over a year ago and it's still stuck with me all this time. The anticipation to finding out what the aunt knew was often times too much to bear but it definitely drew me in and it was very hard to put down.
