Caroline wants nothing more than revenge on her deceased mother's cruel grandfather for never accepting her back (or helping any way) after her elope with a man from a lower class.
But Caroline is to learn a lesson about herself, about her own worthiness about forgiveness and about the true love.
This novel aims high, yet the result is a mixture of "more or less". One cannot have the cake and eat it, too - meaning you can not have a successful swindler of a girl, smartened and hardened by the life on the streets and at the same time to have her as sensitive, good, caring girl only hoping for a familial love. The same goes for the hero. I think that Christian literature needs characters who can truly sin and truly need to have their hearts transformed - take king David, for example.
On the other hand, I appreciate the authoress' creativeness and quite good work with words.
