This was a well written, lovely story about a family in despair and how they overcome the secrets and lies. I loved the horse passages and thought that is what made the book so special. It’s a story beautifully told, with richly drawn characters.
Many thanks to Switchgrass Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Loved the setting. A family saga set in the Kentucky horse world. You have the constant threat of the family destroying one another.
Remember My Beauties, by Lynne Hugo is a quick read that packs a hard punch. This book appeals to both horse fans and fans of stories that delve into dysfunctional families and how each generation affects the next. With beautifully described wildlife and scenery, you are transported directly into the setting of the story. The well portrayed characters both pull at your heartstrings and anger you at the same time. These components made Remeber My Beauties a book I will fondly "remeber" for a long time.
This one is fast to read & more than worth your time!
I really had a difficult time getting through this one. There was potential for a well thought out, emotional, character driven story but it all got bogged down by inadequate editing (there were instances where I had no idea which character was speaking or carrying out a certain action) and absolutely no character development. It seemed as if it was just an outline of a potential novel and not the novel itself. Just skimmed through the last few chapters.
This was a surprisingly good story set in Kentucky horse country. I remember feeling the hot, hot summer, and worrying about those horses!
Imagine a hawk's view of the magnificent bluegrass pastures of Kentucky horse country. Circle around the remnants of a breeding farm, four beautiful horses grazing just beyond the paddock. Inside the ramshackle house, a family is falling apart.
The book is well written by Lynne Hugo but I just could not connect with any of the characters. The narration of the story was usually in Jewel's voice but occasionally this changed yet wasn't made clear. This was confusing, as at some points, the story was even told from the horses viewpoint.
The book covers some of the many realistically complexities of family life - divorce, step families, drug/alcohol overuse, disabled parents to name just a few. Some of the plot twists were not, I feel, believable but overall it was a pleasant, quick read.
*Thank you to Netgalley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review*
While I've had this book for quite some time, I'm just getting around to reading it.
Or trying to read it.
I got to the 31% point on my Kindle and just can't go on.
Being a Kentucky girl, the cover and synopsis caught my eye when it
was listed on NetGalley.
But I found no connections to this dysfunctional family.
There were issues with the Kindle format, or so I thought.
Plus the many point of views were confusing.
Unfortunately, this title wasn't for me.
I've far too many books on my shelves to read something I am not enjoying.
I received this electronic book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this opportunity!
