This is the second book in the Amanda Lester detective series. While it works well as a standalone, I honestly think you should start with the first book to get more of the background information.

Even though these books are for 10 to 12 year-old children, I think they would be enjoyed by a larger age group than that. The characters struggle with personal dislikes and getting along with others in the same manner as other children. The names of the characters are often funny, and that adds a bit of levity to the stories, Moreover, the cases the group of friends undertake to solve are not overly complex, but they do have some twists and turns to keep things interesting.

Overall, a five star book.

A cute concept for the lovers of Sherlock Holmes. This is perfect for the kids who are aspiring to be like Nancy Drew or the Hardy boys. It's perfect since it's a series just like Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.

Number 2 in the series is a fantastic detective story! Amanda Lester, descendant of Inspector Lestrade, and her detective friends and teachers match wits with the Moriarty family again. A descendant of Sherlock Holmes joins the detective school, and -- well, I'd better not say too much and give anything away, but it is a great story! I think that my students would enjoy this story.

This book is well written and a perfect book for upper elementary students. They are not difficult in the reading and are very entertaining. My granddaughter has really enjoyed them all.
