This is book four of nine in the Amanda Lester detective series. While it works well as a standalone, I honestly think you should start with the first book to get more of the background information.

Even though these books are for 10 to 12 year-old children, I think they would be enjoyed by a larger age group than that. The characters struggle with personal dislikes and getting along with others in the same manner as other children. The names of the characters are often funny, and that adds a bit of levity to the stories, Moreover, the cases the group of friends undertake to solve are not overly complex, but they do have some twists and turns to keep things interesting.

Overall, a five star book.

This book has plenty of mystery, plus more romance than the prior three books in the series, and is an excellent YA novel. Amanda, a descendant of Inspector Lestrade, is a strong female lead character now embroiled in a love triangle with descendants of Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty. My favorite part of this book is the peacocks' new skill (which I won't give away here) and the accurate portrayal of the confusion of young love. I highly recommend it!
