This was a very dark and depressing read. Eva’s life had not been easy. Abandoned at 4 years old by her parents and thrown into the foster system. Several years later she is adopted and renamed Brynn, where her nightmare continues. At a young age she realizes that to survive and escape her abusive family, she needs to get a scholarship to go away to college. She starts her first job waitressing and saves her money. This story dealt with tough issues such as drug use, abuse, and violence, which should have sparked strong emotions in me. However, it fell flat. I found myself skimming through parts and lost interest. The writing style felt choppy and confusing.
