I think I requested this book because I got all excited seeing it was going to have characters that weren't young enough to make me annoyed.
Over forty year old characters that were still hot and wanting the sexuals!

Em actually wasn't brainless. She was smart, curvy and cursed like a sailor. Then you add in Mick, a big old man with tattoos and attitude. He also had a beard but I'll forgive him that.
They both are like-able..then you throw in their best friends who I liked even more that I liked them.
Heck yes.

They meet by Em going to work for Mick's best friend. Then she moves into the loft above Mick, stuff just sorta all falls together in too many ways for this couple. It was all so..meant to be stuffy.
That kind of stuff can get old quick.

It does take forever and fifty days for the sexuals. There is definitely no insta-loving in this book.

There is some story line that just falls into place way too easily though. Problem arises? Perfect solution happens.

Yes, for any trolling...I know they both had hard lives but this was just too much.

Then the frigging characters kept winking at each other. I actually counted five winks on two pages. I hate that shit. You betta have something in your eye if you are doing that shit that much. Why does this happen so much in romance books? It's distracting! Maybe I live a sheltered life because I don't know anyone with that many eye problems.

So overall..I didn't hate this book (even if it sounds like I did)..I didn't love it either though. I'm going for a 2 stars. It was aight.

There were a number of things I enjoyed about this book and a few I didn't.

Mick was a sweetie and, whenever she didn't mention his beard, he was fabulous. I don't go for beards. Anytime it came up in a passage Duck Dynasty would flash through my mind and that cooled things down quite a lot. Beard women rejoice, though!

Mick and Em had a slow boil going on that went to ridiculous lengths. Slow boil romances are the best, but the start of this one felt oddly drawn-out. After they'd met several times and knew they were interested neither of them approached the other for quite a while. This slow pacing made the middle of the book sag a bit. In the end, however, all was good, so it may be a "mileage may vary" situation.

Romances with people who aren't in their mid-to-late twenties or early thirties are great. Their characters having experienced more life gives writers the opportunity to give them more depth and I'm glad to see the growing trend.

A major niggle for me was the situation with Jesse's baby at the end. Em's reaction felt off. <spoiler> I understand she wanted children and she wanted Mick to be a father, but where was the sorrow for Jesse's life being cut short? Mick showed some, but they both jumped feet first on the baby and Jesse got lost in the baby powder explosion.</spoiler>
