A really interesting, well-written mystery, featuring a well-drawn and engaging protagonist.

THE EXILED may seem to be a standard, modern crime/mystery - a damaged protagonist, a member of law enforcement who has come very close to crossing/has crossed the line, and is running from his past. However, THE EXILED is more than that.

Raney is now a solo detective covering a vast swathe of New Mexico, enjoying his relative solitude and working to get to grips with (or bury) his past. The author does a great job of evoking the geography and atmosphere of NM. His protagonist is great, well-written, and relatable. The story/plot is well-constructed and engaging.

A really interesting novel, I'd be interested in reading more by the author.
