Emma Locke’s heroine, Cate, is quite literally down to earth. Her hero is a disaster of a wastrel and a rake. Dare has lied, cheated, stolen and has an addiction to gambling that has ruined not only him, but his relationship with his close-knit family. Locke seems to understand the powerful hold of addiction; she doesn’t fall for any easy answers, but does allow Cate and Dare to fall in love, and ultimately find their way back to life and a family full of love.
