3.5 stars.

A young woman is missing. And there are some dead persons at her house, with a husband missing, too. Only he is found dead later - and at Tyler Grant's boat, at that. Special Agent Nikki Boyd, who was best friend with Tyler's recently deceased wife, is decided to find a missing woman and to solve this mystery - not just for young woman, not just for a man who is too close to her heart, but because she personally knows how hard the loss and the missing of beloved person is. Her sister, Sarah, was abducted 10 years ago and her fate is unknown.
But there is more in the mystery than just a woman on the run - on the run from whom? This might be a case of more than one safety threatened -because of the counterfeit drugs.

I liked this novel more than the previous one. This is for sure dynamic novel with lots of action and lots of emotion. While I still don't like how the police work angle is played here (surely the real policemen works much more professionally and the higher-ups are more involved?), I like the impactful issue of counterfeit drugs. I have never thought of that issue and I am glad to get a glimpse of the inside of the pharmaceutical industry and its (possible) darker side.

The emotional side of the novel is more interesting (even if all the longing can get a bit old). But I applaud the authoress for obviously having a warm personality and being able to bring this warmness into her novels. After all, the warmness, the love for each other, the feelings, the having each other's backs - this is what is the most important in life.

Missing is the second book in the Nikki Boyd Files and I didn't enjoy it as much as book one, Vendetta. I can't figure out why exactly that was, but maybe it had to do with the case (counterfeit drugs), I just had a hard time getting into that part of the book. I will say, though, the book started out intriguing and I loved the last couple chapters -- those definitely held my attention. It was just the middle section of the book that didn't really interest me.

I really liked the characters and the last scene has me eager to pick up the next book, Pursued, because I can't wait to see what happens next with something.

All in all, while I didn't love Missing, I did still enjoy it. It leaves me curious as to what is going to happen next regarding a relationship and also what might be revealed regarding a cold case that is personal for Nikki.

*I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
