TAILORED FOR TROUBLE - Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

#1 in the Happy Pants romance series

HILARIOUS - 4 stars

Plot - 4 stars - After a run-in with an arrogant client, Taylor decides to start her own company to retrain CEO's to become more sensitive and socialized to their employees. When Bennett (the arrogant client) wants to hire her, she knows her work is cut out for her.

Writing - 4 stars - I was caught up in the story from the first page. Pamfiloff set a tone of amusing repartee and humor that had me laughing right away. However, I also found the anger to sometimes be uncomfortable, with rude and obnoxious comments made to various people. Although these situations were "explained" later, the over-the-top responses didn't seem justified.

Characters - 4 stars - Taylor is a struggling business owner who just wants to make the working world a better place. Interestingly, though, she is a no-nonsense kind of person who doesn't pull any punches or seem to have any filter. She says whatever she thinks, which is counter to what she's preaching. I often felt frustrated when watching her in action since she was so impulsive and almost reckless in her decisions. I did like watching her begin to recognize her shortcomings, learning to grow before our eyes. Bennett is the ultimate hot, rich, and successful businessman. It's clear that he's hired Taylor for his own ends, but we're not quite sure what they are at first. There's plenty of sexual tension between them and lots of witty (but sarcastic) banter between them. And I enjoyed seeing them learn to work together, each worrying about protecting themselves but still taking a chance on the other.

Title - 4 stars - I thought at first that this was a clever play on words around the main character's first name. But the title was worked into the story as well, and it made even more sense. I liked the image of Bennett looking like her was wearing a suit even when he wasn't dressed in one. It's very descriptive of his personality, and the "tailored for trouble" phrase really fit him.

Cover - 3.5 stars - The cover is a little disjointed, and I'm not sure why. The boss in the book seems to have only one mode--Type A--and the cover shows him with many different emotions. Maybe that's what he's aspiring to be?

Overall - 4 stars - This was entertaining and a quick read, but I'll admit to some frustration with the main characters throughout, although I did enjoy watching their gradual transformation. Both are strong-willing and complex, but their sarcastic humor felt biting at times rather than funny. Working the "romantic cookie" idea into a relationship between two such strong and definitive personalities added some light-hearted humor. All in all, I enjoyed this book and will continue with more from this series and this author.

This was okay, I guess? The story had potential and I really wanted to read this since I am a big fan of Mimi's Accidentally Yours series. But, I found the characters in this book too wishy-washy. They kept changing their opinions and arguments and there was just too much unnecessary tension. I think the plot had so much potential and there's definitely room for improvement.

I loved the connection between Taylor and Bennett; I could feel the passion in the words. The romance is very sweet as well and totally draws the reader in. I loved Taylor’s sass too. The enemies to lovers thing was great and I really enjoyed the slow burn. I didn’t love why Bennett is so standoffish and I didn’t love the ending, so that’s why it gets 4 stars. Overall, I was very entertained the whole time. There’s some fun humor too. Totally enjoyed it!

Tailored for Trouble by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff is my first read both by this author and in this series. I found the characters to be a riot. The exaggeration on his attributes was funny but overplayed. The storyline moved along at quite a clip for the first half of the book. I think I may examine other books by both this author and in this series. I do love a good rom-com.

I am in love with this book.
Bennett and Taylor have such chemistry and umph you just get sucked in and invested.
Bennett is your typical alpha male with a soft spot for mom.
Taylor is trying to make her way in a male dominated world.

It's funny, it's hot, and i loved it.

I have not had a chance to read this book yet. I am still working on catching up and also trying not to get too far behind on other books. I will update this review once I have read the book.

I loved the writing and flow in the story. While I loved Taylor and her ease at pulling herself up out of the basement of life, Bennett is what made me fall in love with this story. I fell in love with him slowly along with Taylor.

This book is a 10 star one. The characters are strong and capture you from the first page. I will say I would have liked an epilogue so that I could see where they end up, however, I'm hoping their story continues in the future books which I can't wait to start.

I like Mimi Jean's books (all of them!). The internal and external dialogue between the characters are too funny. Taylor and Bennett are too funny together. Love this book!

Unfortunately, I lost interest before I got around to this title.

Bennett Wade is a man you love to hate. At least, you would if you could bring yourself to fully dislike him. Like Rhet Butler, he's a man used to getting what he wants when he wants it. He's definitely a control freak without a filter who runs roughshod over those around him. Unfortunately, there's something oddly endearing about him. Like how much he dotes over and indulges his mother, or how generous he was to his assistant Candy.

Taylor Reed, however, has the fortitude to dislike Wade. His rudeness (and her temper) cost her a job, and now he has the nerve to seek out her executive coaching. All she wants is to move on with her life, start her company, and share her insights with CEOs who lack the skills they need to really shine in their roles. When Bennett says he needs her help, Taylor's approach is to accept, and destroy him while she's at it.

The two are constantly at odds throughout the book, which makes for great tension. Taylor actually has a bit of a conscience, despite how little she and Bennett get along. But her struggle with removing herself from "coaching" him actually brings the two closer together once she sees him interacting with others in his own settings. What really makes the book compelling, though, is Happy Pants. This bakery is renown for cookies that send the eater into love. Barrett's doting (read: meddling) mother has given him a cookie ... does that mean Taylor is going to steal his heart? I never was really sure, and that's the fun of of reading "Tailored for Trouble." I never felt completely safe about the outcome, and was thrown for loops a few times.

Overall, this is a fun and engaging read. There's enough lust to keep things hot, but it's not enough to overshadow the story. The characters have enough depth to feel real, without getting bogged down with a sob story that depresses you. I would definitely recommend this, and look forward to future books in this series.

Tailored for Trouble is not your typical office romance book. The interplay between the characters makes this book the gem it is in a flooded genre, but I’ve read a few of these that are all so very similar that they all kind of blend together. This one does stand out because of the unique addition of kind of a ‘fated’ aspect and a magical realism interlaced within it. I really liked that change-up. There was a quirky heroine, a sexy client/boss/billionaire…resistance, then sex, then love etc. which is standard within this genre – but Pamfiloff made it stand out. I like these for a quick and enjoyable read, and Pamfiloff’s first book in the Happy Pants series had me giggling at times and entertained until the end. If you are looking for a good office romance that stands out from the crowd, you might want to check out Tailored for Trouble.
The main character Taylor Reed is driven. Her goal is to turn jerk CEOs into empathetic and caring individuals that look out for their employees. Since she was fired she branched out on her own is now spearheading a training program to help bosses fix their jerk-tendencies. The biggest jerk out there is Bennett Wade. That’s the guy that got her fired and on her most hated list – and top of the jerk list as far as CEOs are concerned. It’s going to be one hell of a process fixing his jerk tendencies when he hires her to fix his issues with a female client he can’t seem to cut a deal with. They team up, reluctantly…and chaos ensues. There are magic cookies involved, private jets, a very involved mother…and just a really good character interplay.
If you want a good romance, have a thing for asshole billionaires and stubborn heroines, this is the book for you. If you like to laugh, while enjoying a good romance…also, check this one out. It’s different. It’s funny. It’s sexy. Pamfiloff’s new series is a keeper. Looking forward to book #2.
